Mx Presentation En 2008 - Presentation Transcript

    1. MOBOTIX ... the cost efficient way for intelligent recording of HiRes video! Uwe Barthelmes • Executive Sales Director of MOBOTIX 1
    2. Who are MOBOTIX? Since 1999 MOBOTIX develops IP based network camera systems - high resolution video & audio over computer networks to PC - via Ethernet, WLAN, ISDN, GSM/UMTS (TCP/IP standard) - Plug-and-Play system incl. lens, image processing and recording - product portfolio of weatherproof cameras from 448 to 1248 Euro LAN/Internet/UMTS D12 IP-Network MxViewer 4
    3. MOBOTIX: Facts and Figures • Private stock company founded in 1999 by Dr. Ralf Hinkel, Sabine Hinkel, Klaus Borchers • Headquarters in Kaiserslautern, Germany (100 km southwest of Frankfurt Airport) • branch in New York (Manhattan) • 160 employees, whole production in Germany • offices in France, Italy, Spain, UK, Japan, Australia, Benelux, Scandinavia • more than 100,000 installed cameras since 2001 (now 60% export) • last fiscal year 2006/07: 24 Mio. €, 52% growth, 53% Equity, 18% EBIT • MOBOTIX is a Software company with its own Hardware products ==> IPO in October 2007 6
    4. Development Philosophy in 1999 idea: INTERNET Camera ==> 99% in outdoor use Design guide lines: • no moving parts • no additional outdoor housing • no heating • no AC power plug at camera • no additional computer • no additional modem • no software installation ==> Web-browser ==> CMOS image sensor with powerful CPU but with no autoiris 7
    5. MOBOTIX is totally different from CCTV Analog 0.1 - 0.4 Megapixel = Digital 1.3 - 3 Megapixel 89
    6. Simple Concept - Made in Germany How? ... by skipping the analog video signal and by integrating a powerful PC with a large software package for image processing and image analysis inside the \"camera\" ... MOBOTIX needs: - no auto iris Image - no analog camera module - no analog signal Sensor - no digitizer Net - no compression chip - no power supply - no winter heating So CPU - no weather housing ftw ar e M22 Board 9
    7. Image Formats 90% of all video systems record no more than 0.1 Megapixel (CIF or 2CIF) 4
    8. Analog CIF vs. HiRes Recording 3 Megapixel 1.3 Megapixel 0.4 Megapixel 0.1 Megapixel 9
    9. Benefits of HiRes Megapixel Recording are obvious • better image quality ==> more effective post processing higher resolution offers more detail and better image analysis better photofit pictures and face recognition • less cameras necessary ==> reduced system costs one super wide angle covers an entire room one camera for four lanes of a gas station one camera for four turnable gates at a football stadium • digital zoom and pan ==> more robust and less maintance no moving parts necessary when using 3D digital image processing virtual PTZ with 360 degree with lens distortion correction 13
    10. Why isn´t HiRes Recording Standard? 12
    11. Why are HiRes Cameras so rare? Arguments of the analog community against HiRes Cameras: • require too much network load • expensive cameras and lenses • require too much storage • PC is overloaded by displaying high frame rates • PC can handle only few HiRes cameras • centralized Video-Management-Software is overloaded by - unpacking and decoding MPEG4 - image analysis - down scaling of image size for displaying - down scaling of image size and frame rates for recording but, would you buy a still camera for the familiy with 0.1 megapixel? 14
    12. The MOBOTIX Solution 17
    13. The Decentralized MOBOTIX-Solution The MOBOTIX idea of 2001: cost efficient & HiRes megapixel recording requires intelligent cameras to reduce central PC- and Software load The MOBOTIX Concept: ==> performance consuming functions of the central video management software were outsourced into the camera itself Therefore MOBOTIX offers: • network based HiRes cameras made in Germany • a new video codec for HiRes cams MxPEG • own video management software supporting HiRes Cams 19
    14. Analog & Standard IP-Camera vs. MOBOTIX analog video cable Logic A/D real time data/synchronous CCTV camera DVR/PC network cable Logic A/D real time data/synchronous network camera DVR/PC video management software network cable Logic NO real time network required MOBOTIX camera = PC buffered asynchronous recording 10x better recording performance software & memory inside \"camera\" ==> (1200 VGA Frames/s) 20
    15. The Software inside the MOBOTIX Camera 22
    16. Image Scaling Inside Camera 3,1 megapixel image scaling by real geometric transformation 2048 x 1536 lines sensor resolution Scaling is done by software and not by hardware • therefore no scaling artifacts, no skipping, no binding inside chip • every resolution and aspect ratio possible • clipping reduces storage size (i.e. 1000 x 250) Various standard output formats • (2048 x 1536), MEGA (1280 x 960), XVGA (1024 x 800), • SVGA (800 x 600), VGA (640 x 480), CIF (320 x 240), PDA (160 x 120) • D1-Pal (720 x 576), D1-CIF (355 x 288) 19

    46. Variable Recording Trigger Functions 60
    47. Event Driven Frame Rate Reduces Storage 61
    48. Ring Buffer Bridges Network failures 62
    49. Typical non-MOBOTIX System Structure TCP/IP Network total system work has to be done by PC/DVR PC / DVR Storage motion detection and pre-alarm buffers are inside PC ==> central PC is a bottle-neck and high risk area of the whole system 66
    50. Typical MOBOTIX Large System Structure 1 2 3 i TCP/IP Network Admin Storage \"1\" Storage \"n\" ==> MOBOTIX have no system limits and no central recording logic 71
    51. Where does the performance comes from? (1) efficient video codec inside MOBOTIX camera - MxPEG can be 6 x faster displayed than MPEG4 - up to 30 fluent live streams can be displayed on a single PC - supported by many video management software systems - typ. 1.5 Mbps at 16 F/s in VGA with 480 lines (2) intelligent recording technology inside camera reduces PC load - up to 40 fluent live streams can be recorded on a single PC - database management of ring buffer on PC by camera - additional software to record or event search not necessary - 1.4 terabyte Raid for 2 month highres recording (960 lines) 69
    52. Why MxPEG and not MPEG-4? • MPEG-4 - was designed for offline movie compression (studio, large computer) - blurs moving objects in resolution and quality (no single step) - was not designed for short latency time of live cameras - low display capacity of high resolution videos on PC - license fee for MPEG-4 !!! • MxPEG - transports changing image regions with high priority/quality (security) - network robust because no key frames and no difference coding - simple decoder (JPEG-based) enables 30 CIF videos on PC - multi-channel design with parallel M-JPEG and MxPEG streaming - supports variable frame rates with lip-synchronized audio ==> multi-channel access and short latency were design goals 74 5
    53. Advantages of MxPEG • short latency or reaction time (150 ms in CIF-Format at 30 F/s) • lip-synchronized audio at variable frame rates (1..30 F/s) • multiple user channels with different frame rates including audio • single frame playback at each position • simultanous browser access (JPEG) during video/audio streaming • efficient decoding allows multiple live cams on PC screen (30 CIFs) Advantages for Live Cams • short reaction time allows control of pan/tilt heads via network • each user controls network load himself by choosing streaming video or single image access via browser (M-JPEG) • Live stream and recording stream can differ in frame rate !!! 75 6
