Three things are key to SharePoint’s overtaking of ECM.
They solved the most pervasive problem first – not the hardest.
They created promoters by letting users believe they control their own data.
They marketed and promoted the product through IT operations channels.

The pool of solution providers building applications upon SharePoint will expand dramatically.

Awareness of content and document management solutions will increase.

The other ECM platform vendors will both resist and support the SharePoint onslaught.

SharePoint "reactions” will intensify as awareness of its complexity grows and as business owners realize that it is a platform upon with applications must be built rather than an out of the box application.

There will be a renaissance of process-specific out of the box DM point solutions.
