For many years, AIIM members have informally shared information about their experiences with particular vendors and products
Over the past 6 months we have begun to formally gather these opinions, and are pleased to make this collective intelligence available to the broader AIIM community
We asked 1000+ users and implementers to rate products according to 12 different factors
We then asked well known industry expert Harvey Spencer from Harvey Spencer Associates to combine these evaluations with his knowledge to produce a product study

Vendors did not have to pay nor be an AIIM member to be included in the report, they just needed to offer a relevant product. They also needed to respond to our request for information – frankly not always the easiest thing to get them to do

Three Capture Categories
This new report, the most comprehensive of its kind, does three things:
It breaks down Capture Software into three categories;
ad-hoc imaging
batch imaging
batch transaction
It provides an understanding of what the products in those categories do
It categorizes and explains nearly 140 products

Ad-Hoc Capture
Ad-hoc demand-based capture with very low volume is software used with a scanning device to convert paper documents on a demand basis.
Typically used to capture a few dozen pages per day.
Frequently will also include some simple form of document storage and retrieval capability.
The digital copier (MFP) has also spawned a number of ad-hoc oriented vendors who typically sell integrated networked solutions in conjunction with or through major copier manufacturers.
