    • Cloud Computing andYour Business
    • Life in “The Cloud” is becomingever more popular for everyonefrom gamers to businessexecutives.
    • The reason for this?Convenience, adaptability, andmobility.
    • From secure storage and filesharing to virtual offices;
    • from reducedcapital investmentsto improved systemmanagement;
    • from expandedresources toimprovedcommunication,
    • the cloud offers all of thesethings and more.
    • What isthe cloud?
    • As with most emerging technologies, many people have differing ideasabout what “The Cloud” is all about.
    • Essentially, cloud computing isabout offering choices andincreased versatility,
    • with every tool you need to beproductive available 24/7, 365 in asecure, online environment.
    • In fact, if you have aHotmail or Gmailaccount, you’re alreadyusing cloud computing, because the emailprogram you use ishosted off-site.
    • Cloud power allowsyou to do the samething with virtuallyevery program andapp yourorganization uses,
    • hosting them for you in asecure, off-site environment.
    • The Private Cloud vs.The Public Cloud
    • There are basically two types ofcloud service to choose from –public and private, but with a twist:
    • The Public Cloud
    • The Public Cloud allows your organization to accesssecure storage and applications available toeveryone, reducing investments in hardware, programs, and bandwidth.
    • The service isscalable to yourneeds and you onlypay for what youuse.
    • The Public Cloud fromMicrosoft can includeaccess to Office 365
    • Or to limited Office web apps in SkyDrive, and many other productivity tools thatyour organization uses every day.
    • The Private Cloud
    • The Private Cloud istailored to the specificneeds of yourorganization and isoffered to a very limitednumber of users; thosewithin your organizationonly.
    • It provides increased data securityand enhanced control, as the“customer base” is highly limited tothose within your company.
    • The Private Cloud from Microsoft, calledAzure, can include full access to allfeatures of Office and Outlook
    • And the system is tailored to thespecific needs of your organization.
    • The Hybrid Cloud
    • The Hybrid Cloud combines the twoservices for you, essentially creating avirtual private network (VPN)for critical data,
    • while also allowingyou to communicatewith others outsidethe network, suchas clients, in asecure environment.
    • Microsoft SkyDriveand MicrosoftAzure CloudServices
    • Microsoft offers two cloud basedservices, with Office 365 as a minimalalternative to the two.
    • It gets a bit confusing but let’s try tounderstand what they are offering…
    • Microsoft SkyDrive andOffice 365 – are bothPublic Cloud offerings.
    • Office 365 isbasically a cloud-based version ofOffice for use withmobile devices,while SkyDrive is afull-service cloud-based solution.
    • The free version ofSkyDrive offers theuser 7GB of onlinestorage, combinedwith fully functionalsharing and real-time collaboration,
    • as well as minimaloffice functionality, throughOffice Web Apps.
    • Increased storage and functionalityare available for a surprisinglymodest annual fee.
    • Microsoft Azure – onthe other hand, canbe structured as acomplete virtualoffice,
    • offering all the functionality of anon-premises system but withincreased access forthe entire organization.
    • It is a pay-per-usage system, basedupon terabytes of data used.
    • Azure offers big data storage, access tovirtually any operating system, virtual machineusage, website hosting, server hosting, accessto unlimited apps, and networking.
    • It is truly a virtualoffice environment.
    • While the idea of cloud computing can beconfusing, we believe it helps to think ofit like this; whatever your current systemcan do, the cloud can also do for you.
    • As long as your internetconnection is running, every app and systemyou have in place will beavailable to everyperson in yourorganization 24/7, 365.
    • No more server downtime; no moreinvestments in new hardware; no morebuying and maintaining operatingsystems and software programs.
    • They are all available to youin The Cloud.
