  • 3. How did King Edward I of England want to gain the throne of Scotland?
    • As Alexander III king of Scotland died, King Edward I of England wanted his son to marry Alexander’s daughter
  • 4. What did Scottish nobles ask Edward to do?
    • The Scottish nobles asked Edward I to choose a king for them and he chose John Balliol
  • 5. What happened in 1296?
    • In 1296 Edward I sent an army to Scotland. He defeated them in the Battle of Dunbar and declared himself King of Scotland.

    • . William Wallace led his country against the British occupation and against King Edward I of England in the Wars of Scottish Independence.
