QuickBooks Tip of the Week!
Short cuts to save you time.
Debits and Credits
QuickBooks is a "double entry" bookkeeping system -
every transaction has two sides. Sometimes it might
not be clear just what accounts are being posted to in a
particular transaction, such as an invoice.
Tip: Press ctrl-Y when looking at a transaction to see
the transaction journal for that transaction.
A transaction journal listing for a specific transaction
will show you every account that is debited and
credited. It is a quick and easy way to see what is
going on "under the hood".
Your Business' Accounting System
Keep Up to Date
Falling behind on your bookkeeping will only make
matters worse. Set a specific time aside to deal
primarily with recordkeeping. This will make tax time
easier and quicker for you or your accountant. If you
simply do not have the time necessary to complete the
task, then look at outsourcing the work, or bringing in a
part-time bookkeeper. This necessary function of
business is so crucial to the success of the business
that it cannot be put off and/or forgotten.
Now is the time to update your books, and see if any
"year end" tax planning needs to be taken care for
BEFORE year end, because delaying until tax time may
be to late for some tax strategies to be put in place.
