2. Windsor is located right across the Detroit
River from Detroit Michigan. The
waterfront offers a 5km trail, many
gardens, art sculptures, parks, picnic areas
and stunning views. Recently a large
outdoor concert and event area was built
and will be the host to Windsor’s many
summer festivals.
3. The Ambassador Bridge connects
Windsor and Detroit. It is a 7500
foot suspension bridge . The
bridge opened in 1929 and
approximately 225, 000 cars and
trucks cross this bridge
everyday!!!
4. The Detroit/Windsor tunnel is
another way to travel back and
forth between the two countries.
The tunnel opened in 1930 and
is 75 feet below the river bed.
Approximately 15,000 vehicles
pass through the tunnel
everyday.
5. The Peace Fountain is located in one of
Windsor’s beautiful river front parks.
Its the perfect place for a family outing,
walk or wedding pictures ;o)
6. The Windsor/Detroit Freedom Festival
started in 1959 and happens every year
between the last week of June through to
July 4th. The Freedom Festival celebrates the
freedom between Canada and America!
Every year to celebrate both Canada and
America’s birthday a huge fireworks display
is set off. Over 200,000 people attend the
fireworks in Windsor each year. The
Freedom festival fireworks has been said to
be the 2nd largest fireworks display in North
America!
7. The University of Windsor offers many programs and activities to participate in. This is
where I attended University for both my undergrad and education degree. Just this
March the University of Windsor girls Basketball team took home their first ever
Canadian Women’s Basketball Championship!!! Go Lancers!!!
8. The Windsor Spitfires is our local OHL hockey team and
has won the Memorial cup the last two years in a row!!! Go
Spits!!!
9. Point Pelee is located
in Leamington just
outside of Windsor. It
is the most southern
point in Canada. Point
Pelee National Park
offers many hiking and
biking trails,
conservation areas,
camping, beaches and
wildlife!!!
