  2. 2. Let’s get know about BUDDY BEARS • Buddy Bears are a series of painted, life-size fibreglass bear sculptures originally developed in Berlin. • The first Buddy Bear was created by the German businesspeople Klaus and Eva Herlitz, in cooperation with the sculptor Roman Strobl in 2001.Germany.

  4. 4. WHAT ARE BUDDY BEARS? • The Buddy Bears are an urban event that bring new life into many city centres. • They show a message of peace, international understanding and tolerance among the nations, cultures and religions of this world.

INFORMATION ABOUT BUDDY BEARS • The United Buddy Bears are an international art exhibition. • Under the logo: “We have to get to know each other better, it makes us understand one another better, trust each other more, and live together more peacefully”. • More than 140 countries of the United Nations are represented.
  6. 6. What do Buddy Bears promote? • Tolerance. • International understanding. • The concept of different nations and cultures living in peace and harmony. The bears stand hand in hand in a peaceful circle (The Art of Tolerance).

FOR A PEACEFUL WORLD • One important prerequisite for this international project is to choose artists from the individual countries to reflect the diversity of the cultures of one world. • The buddy bears teach us about the culture, the history, the people and the landscape of the individual countries. • The poorest and the richest countries are equal in this project. • The first exhibition was between June and November 2002 in a circle around the Brandenburg Gate. Around 1.5 million people visited it.

  10. 10. WORLDTOUR • The 6th of November 2002, the bears were moved to new locations around the world. Included the countries that participated in the project. • Some Buddy bears were sold. The money was used to help children in need.
