    • ----- Lightning Talk ----NY GDG, 30 Oct 2013 Nitya Narasimhan [ @nitya, +NityaNarasimhan, in/nityan ]
    • What is “GWD”? • Advanced (HTML5) web application .. – to design and build rich content (think ads) – with an integrated code + visual interface • Born cross-browser, ad-platform ‘ready’ • “Beta” released in October 2013 • “Download” native app for Windows/MacOS
    • What is brings along with it ..
    • What it can do .. • • • • • Timeline animations (Quick/Advanced modes) Full 3D Authoring (Rotate, Transform tools) Dual Review Modes (Code + Design views) Illustration Tools (pen tool, shape tool, events .. ) Easy Ad Workflow ( banner ads, expandable, ads, interstitial ads ) from animation to event fulfillment • 1-click Publishing (zip), Web Fonts (usage), Browser previews (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera…)
    • What’s the trade-off?** • Pros – – – – It’s free (compared to Adobe/Microsoft tools) It’s simple (intuitive interfaces, familiar design cues, inline preview) It’s fast (for quick prototyping, integration with key ad platforms) It’s well-designed and likely to evolve quickly (auto-updates) • Cons – – – – It requires an app download (only Mac OS, Windows supported) It targets cross-browser usage (HTML5) but is not yet ‘responsive’ It’ good for single web pages but not (yet) for complete web apps It’s not a silver bullet for ‘good’ web design. YMMV. ** also see this SitePoint Review
