  2. 2.  A RIVER IS A NATURAL WATERCOURSE FLOWING TOWARDS AN OCEAN, A LAKE OR A SEA. RIVERS ARE INSEPARABLE PARTS OF OUR COUNTRY. A RIVER NOT ONLY FLOWS DOWN THE WATER INTO SEA, BUT ALSO CARRIES WITH HER VARIOUS DEPOSITS AND MINERALS IN DISSOLVED FORM.
  3. 3.  RIVER MOUTH, WHERE FRESH WATER OF THE RIVER MERGES WITH THE SALINE OCEANIC WATER, IS THE LARGST BIO-PRODUCTIVE AREA. RIVERS ARE IMPORTANT SOURCES OF WATER FOR HOUSEHOLDS, INDUSTRY AND AGRICULTURE. IT PROVIDE US WITH FOOD, ENERGY, TRANSPORTATION ROUTES, AND WATER FOR IRRIGATION AND FOR DRINKING.

  5. 5.  DAMS ARE STRUCTURES THAT HOLD BACK WATER, OR OTHER LIQUID MATERIAL REASONS TO BUILD A DAM: GENERATION OF HYDROELECTRICITY, IRRIGATION, CONTROL FLOODING. ACCORDING TO THE INTERNATIONAL COMMISSION ON LARGE DAMS, THE HEIGHT OF THE DAM FROM THE BASE TO ITS APEX MUST BE 15 METRES OR MORE, TO CALL IT A LARGE DAM.
  6. 6.  DUE TO DAMS, FERTILE PLAINS WOULD SUBMERGE, PEOPLE WOULD BE DISPLACED, FORESTS AND AGRICULTURAL LAND WOULD BE LOST, AND SAFETY OF DAMS, FLOODS ETC. DAMS ARE EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE TO BUILD AND MUST BE BUILT TO A VERY HIGH STANDARD.
