Leadership Assembly Leadership Assembly Presentation Transcript

  • LeadershipThe power of ONE
Think BIG .Start SMALL. ACT NOW!
  • Leadership Task
    • Using the sticky labels, write individual qualities that you associate with LEADERSHIP. What makes a Great Leader?
    • Now assign the labels to people in the room who bear the qualities you consider important in a leader and stick them on them.
  • They are NOT the LEADERS of tomorrow.
    Why NOT?
  • Why Not?
    • Because they ARE the LEADERS OF TODAY?
    • YOU ARE ALL THE LEADERS OF TODAY.
    • You don’t have to wait until you can vote; until you own your own home; have children or have a Masters degree. You are the Leaders of Today – Right NOW!
    •
    • Those of us that are old often try to maintain the status quo. Your job is to challenge the Status Quo, to bring about a community/world that matches your values.
  • Attempt the IMPOSSIBLE
“The young do not know how to be prudent and they attempt the impossible. And, they achieve it generation after generation.”
    Pearl S Buck
  • How do I challenge the Status Quo?
    • Be a Leader? But what is Leadership?
    • Leadership is:
    • Envisioning the future
    • Empowering Others
    • Seeing what needs to be done and doing it; doing the right thing.
    • Working with others to achieve what you want
  • True Leadership is NOT:
    Power or Authority
    Command and Control
    Giving Orders
    Having power over someone else
Making people do what you want
  • LEADERS:
    • Take INITIATIVES and RISKS. They are PROACTIVE not REACTIVE.
    • They see the Big(ger) Picture
    • Have INTEGRITY and EMPATHY
    • Trust others and Cooperate
    • Create change and manage change.
    • Envision a future, figure out how to get us there and help us arrive.
    • LISTEN,Resolve Conflict, Solve problems and use power constructively.
  • What is POWER?
    • Information is power
    • Initiative is power
    • Perseverance is power
    • Vision is Power
    • Creativity and imagination are power
    • Education is power
    • Character and Integrity are power
    • ALL OF WHICH YOU HAVE IN ABUNDANCE
  • In Summary:
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
    Eleanor Roosevelt
    NOW WHAT?
  • NOW IS THE TIME:
You can decide to do something to challenge the status quo, to change a part of the world that you care about starting NOW.
“Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently..."
    YOU ARE POWERFUL
    YOU ARE LEADERS
    CHANGE THE WORLD!
(Somebody’s got to do it. Why not You?)
  • So what now?
    • If you were to dream really big, what would
you want to do with your life to make a
difference in this world and realise your leadership
    potential?
What kind of person do you want to be?
    • a) What values do you want your life to affirm.?
    • b) When you look back at the end of your life, who do you want to have been?
Where will you begin? What’s one thing you can
do this week? Think BIG. Start SMALL. ACT NOW.
