THE LOCAL ELEMENTARY MEDIA CENTER <ul><li>480+ Students from Kindergarten – 5 th grade </li></ul><ul><li>Used by approximately 73 faculty/staff members plus volunteers </li></ul>The Media Center is the “hub” of learning activity in the school – a place where students can: Develop a passion for books and reading. Explore their interests and ideas. Seek and find answers. Use books and technology for pleasure reading and educational purposes. Investigate topics from the classroom and from real life. In the hall there is </li></ul><ul><li>a “flower box” with paper </li></ul><ul><li>art flowers, made by the </li></ul><ul><li>students. </li></ul>

CURRENT FACILITY FLOORPLAN <ul><li>THE CIRCULATION DESK IS LOCATED JUST INSIDE THE DOUBLE DOORS. </li></ul><ul><li>THE MS OFFICE IS JUST BEHIND THE CIRCULATION DESK. </li></ul><ul><li>THE STORAGE ROOM IS ACROSS THE ROOM. </li></ul><ul><li>THERE ARE ONLY 2 COMPUTERS, 1 SPECIFICALLY FOR USE AS THE MEDIA CENTER CATALOG. </li></ul><ul><li>NO PRINTING RESOURCES. </li></ul><ul><li>A LOFT AREA FOR FREE READING TIME. </li></ul><ul><li>2 SETS OF CLASS TABLES AND A FEW WORK TABLES. </li></ul>

  8. 8. CHANGES MADE: <ul><li>LOFT REMOVED, NOT HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE AND TAKES UP ROOM THAT CAN BE USED FOR FREE READING. COMFORTABLE BEAN BAG CHAIRS HAVE BEEN ADDED FOR COMFORT AND FUN. </li></ul><ul><li>ONE SHELF REMOVED FROM REFERENCE AREA TO ALLOW TO PLACE MULTI-SECTION COMPUTER DESKS, ADDING 8-12 COMPUTERS TO THIS MEDIA CENTER. </li></ul><ul><li>THE FRONT CORNER HAS BEEN REARRANGED TO ALLOW FOR A SEPARATE CLASS WORK SPACE THAT WOULD HAVE ROOM FOR MOVEMENT AND SPACE FOR TALKING. </li></ul>

Media Programs <ul><li>Board PolicyDescriptor Code:IFBCMedia Programs     The implementation of a unified media program throughout the Oconee County Schools shall be based on procedures implemented by the Superintendent in accordance with State Board of Education rules and regulations. The procedures implemented by the Superintendent shall contain provisions to ensure that: </li></ul><ul><li>A media committee is established at the system level to be responsible for the development of media procedures for the school system, including: </li></ul><ul><li>Selecting media and instructional materials,Handling requests for reconsideration of materials,Considering gifts of instructional resources,Using non-school owned materials, andComplying with copyright law.  </li></ul><ul><li>A media committee is established at each school to provide input into various aspects of the media center operation, including: </li></ul><ul><li>Making recommendations and decisions related to planning, operation, evaluation and improvement of the media program,Annually evaluating media services, andDeveloping a multi-year media plan for budget and services priorities.  </li></ul><ul><li>Personnel Required: </li></ul><ul><li>14.
