2. ABSTRACT
The
Shot
Developer
is
a
pair
of
sport
sunglasses
that
are
specific
to
beach
volleyball.
They
scan
the
court
and
the
surrounding
areas,
locate
where
the
bodies
are
standing,
and
through
a
speaker
on
the
ear
piece,
will
let
the
user
know
where
the
empty
space
on
the
court
is
located.
They
contain
a
2D
scanner
on
the
frame,
and
a
speaker
on
the
earpiece.
They
can
be
worn
in
beach
volleyball
games
to
assist
in
shot
choice,
meanwhile
protec?ng
eyes
from
the
damage
of
the
sun
with
polarized
lenses.
They
will
be
durable
and
purposeful
meanwhile
looking
stylish
as
well.
3. CONCEPT/TOPIC
I
play
beach
volleyball
here
at
UCLA.
Some?mes
it
is
difficult
to
know
where
to
hit
the
ball.
While
playing,
there
is
a
lot
that
one
needs
to
be
thinking
about,
from
their
approach,
their
contact
on
the
ball,
and
where
to
place
it.
OWen
you
will
hit
the
wrong
shot
and
it
will
end
up
going
right
to
where
your
opponent
is
standing,
resul?ng
in
them
being
able
to
score
the
point.
The
idea
of
the
Shot
Developer
is
to
calculate
this
informa?on
almost
instantaneously
and
let
the
player
know
through
a
small
speaker
in
the
leW
ear
piece
the
best
loca?on
to
put
the
ball
based
on
the
loca?on
of
ones
opponents.
4. CONTEXT
&
PRECEDENTS
To
be
put
it
in
its
simplest
of
terms,
beach
volleyball
is
a
game
where
one
tries
to
hit
the
ball
down
to
the
ground
where
their
opponent
is
not.
Beach
volleyball
is
a
game
that
requires
a
lot
of
skill,
technique,
and
mental
strength.
One
must
be
thinking
about
approaching
to
the
ball
at
an
angle
that
provides
them
with
a
variety
of
shots,
about
approaching
hard
to
get
maximum
height
on
the
jump,
and
get
good
contact
between
their
hand
and
the
ball.
One
must
think
about
all
of
this,
as
well
as
where
to
hit
the
ball.
My
aim
to
simplify
the
process
of
choosing
where
to
place
the
ball.
Whether
it
be
for
beginners
or
professionals,
the
sport
glasses
will
provide.
Sport
will
always
require
a
balance
of
physical
training,
mental
training,
and
a
healthy
diet.
There
are
always
new
advancements
in
physical
training
to
allow
one
to
get
faster
and
stronger.
There
are
always
new
trends
of
healthy
foods
to
eat
for
op?mal
performance.
The
mental
aspect
of
beach
volleyball
is
one
that
is
oWen
forgo]en
about.
Mental
toughness
is
crucial.
The
Shot
Developer
sunglasses
can
aid
in
the
mental
side
of
beach
volleyball.
It
will
eliminate
the
frustra?on
of
not
knowing
where
to
hit
the
ball.
It
will
eliminate
the
anxiety
of
not
hi^ng
the
right
shot.
Beach
Volleyball
athletes
such
as
Kerry
Walsh-‐Jennings
are
focused
on
having
a
combina?on
of
physical
training,
mental
training,
and
a
healthy
diet
for
best
results.
5. PROJECT
PROPOSAL
The
2D
scanner
will
be
located
on
the
top,
in
the
middle
of
the
frame,
and
the
speaker
will
be
located
in
the
leW
ear
piece.
The
court
will
be
divided
into
four
quadrants,
back
leW,
back
right,
front
leW
and
front
right.
6. PROJECT
PROPOSAL
(con?nued)
As
you
are
in
the
air
about
to
contact
the
ball,
the
scanner
locates
where
the
other
two
players
on
the
court
are.
It
calculates
whether
there
is
someone
at
the
net
blocking
or
not,
and
where
the
defender
is
se^ng
up
their
defense.
Once
this
is
done,
the
scanner
will
calculate
where
the
empty
spaces
on
the
court
are
and
where
your
best
op?on
to
hit
the
ball
is.
The
glasses
would
calculate
that
there
is
a
player
up
at
the
net
to
block
on
the
leW
side,
and
a
player
defending
in
the
back
right
side,
therefore
the
best
shot
to
hit
would
be
to
the
BACK
LEFT
corner.
The
speaker
would
announce
this
informa?on
prior
to
contact.
7. PROJECT
PROPOSAL
(con?nued)
My
idea
is
that
the
glasses
will
be
comfortable,
durable,
and
fashionable
as
well.
The
look
will
be
sporty
in
appearance,
inspired
by
Oakley.
The
lenses
and
frames
will
be
offered
in
a
variety
of
different
colours.
The
glasses
will
also
be
offered
in
prescrip?on
and
in
polarized
as
well.
8. CONCLUSION
The
intersec?on
of
sport
and
science
is
inevitable.
As
technology
is
advancing,
sport
advances
as
well.
David
Epstein
raised
a
ques?on
in
his
2014
TedTalk.
Are
athletes
really
ge^ng
faster,
be]er,
stronger?
His
answer
was
no,
that
new
inven?ons
and
innova?ons
are
what’s
making
success
in
sport
so
much
greater
than
is
was
almost
a
century
ago.
The
‘Shot
Development’
is
a
technological
advancement
that
will
take
the
sport
of
beach
volleyball
to
a
whole
other
level.
As
aspects
of
the
mental
game
will
be
taken
out,
it
will
require
the
players
to
become
a
lot
more
physical.
As
they
will
not
be
required
to
think
about
where
the
best
shot
to
hit
is,
it
will
be
more
important
to
be
more
powerful
and
explosive.
It
will
be
more
important
to
out-‐jump,
out-‐run,
and
out-‐last
the
players
on
the
other
side
of
the
net,
rather
than
out-‐smart
them.
The
Shot
Developers
will
help
beginners
learn
the
game
of
beach
volleyball,
and
will
help
professionals
advance
in
different
aspects
of
their
game.
Athletes
are
always
looking
for
different
ways
to
be
#1.
They
are
always
looking
out
for
the
latest
and
greatest
apparel,
accessories,
and
equipment
to
help
them
get
to
the
top.
The
Shot
Developers
can
help
beach
volleyball
players
get
to
the
top
of
the
podium
and
look
great
while
doing
it.
