I’m thinking of a name do you know how he is ? Peter A. Sarpy. Sarpy was born in the year 1805 he died in 1865.He was only 60 years old!
The years past, 25 years later in the 1830’s Peter took charge of the post In Bellevue. Sometime later he married Nicomi the Ohmaha’s tribes chief’s daughter.
More years pass and Sarpy becomes “ White Chief.” In October of 1832, he was involved in an illegal seizure of a keelboat that belonged to the company of the America Fur Company. Sarpy opened a ferry business. He lead people across Missouri between Bellevue and St.Marys. He also ferried the Mormons across the Missouri, plus he ferried men that would-be miners of the gold rush across the Missouri river. In the year 1862 he moved to Plattsmouth and died in Plattsmouth in 1865. Sarpy County was named in his honor.
