    • Scientific Method Live it, Love it, USE IT!
    • Discoveries Can Be Made In Two Ways
      • By accident
      • Through a carefully planned investigation….SCIENTIFIC METHOD!
      • Scientific method can be thought of as a logical approach to a problem.
      • There are 6 steps in this approach.
      • Galileo is considered the originator of the scientific method.
    • STEP 1
      • STATE THE PROBLEM
    • STEP 2
      • OBSERVE & GATHER EVIDENCE (research)
      • 2 types of observations
      • 1. Qualitative - describing without measurements
      • 2. Quantitative - describing with measurements
    • STEP 3
      • STATE YOUR HYPOTHESIS
      • Possible solution or prediction
      • Typically an “if/then” statement
      • Cause/effect situation
    • STEP 4
      • CONDUCT YOUR EXPERIMENT
      • This step is typically done several times and results are averaged.
    • STEP 5
      • RECORD & ANALYZE DATA
      • What happened?
      • Did you received the results you expected?
    • STEP 6
      • FORM A CONCLUSION
      • Discuss your findings
      • Did you prove your hypothesis?
      • What were some possible sources of error?
    • Experimentation Process
      • Involves using procedures to test a hypothesis under controlled conditions.
      • Control Group - the standard in which all conditions are kept the
      • same.
      • Independent (manipulated) Variable - the one condition that is
      • tested and changed.
      • Dependent (responding) Variable - the second condition that
      • results from the change.
      • *HINT : this is what we measure in the experiment!
