  • Chellappa is considered as the first to use the term “Cloud Computing”. His first speech about “Cloud Computing” in a talk at INFORMS meeting in 1997. He latter publishes a paper in IJNM 2002 in which he describes Cloud Computing as “a dynamic computing paradigm where the boundaries of computing are determined by rationale provided by technological, economic, organizational and security requirements“.

  • Although disagreed in evaluated results, the market intelligence firms expect a very high grow rate of Cloud Computing in the next years.

    3. 3. Cloud Computing What is Cloud Computing? Definition: Wikipedia: Cloud Computing is the use of computing resources (hardware and software) that are delivered as a service over a network (typically the Internet). Oxford Dictionaries: Cloud computing is the practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and process data, rather than a local server or a personal computer. Gartner: Cloud computing is a style of computing in which scalable and elastic IT-enabled capabilities are delivered as a service using Internet technologies. Forrester: Cloud computing is a standardized IT capability (services, software, or infrastructure) delivered via Internet technologies in a pay-per-use, self-service way. IDC: Cloud computing is an emerging IT development, deployment and delivery model, enabling real-time delivery of products, services and solutions over the Internet (i.e., enabling cloud services). US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST): Cloud Computing is a model for enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g. networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.
