  2. 2. <ul><li>The major issues which confront Narikuravas are poverty, illiteracy, diseases and discrimination </li></ul><ul><li>There has been discrimination of Narikuravas since ancient times. </li></ul><ul><li>On 1996, a social-welfare organization named Narikurava Seva Sangam was formed in order to educate Narikurava children and facilitate them to lead a settled life. </li></ul><ul><li>In May 2008, the creation of a Welfare Board for the Narikuravas headed by the Backward Classes Minister was authorized by the State Government. </li></ul>Narikurava – a Brief Introduction
  3. 3. <ul><li>ANSEP – Asha Kulam Narikurava Skill Enhancement Project is a community service initiative by NFSC and Artserv in the year 2009. </li></ul><ul><li>To Enhance their Design Skills and Workmanship </li></ul><ul><li>To help them Manage Production and Marketing </li></ul><ul><li>To help them Market in Retail Stores </li></ul><ul><li>To expose them to other form of crafts other than jewellery making </li></ul>About ANSEP
  4. 4. <ul><li>There are about 150 women, out of the population of 300 </li></ul><ul><li>Most women make beaded chains, anklets & ear rings and sell in and around Vizhupuram, Pondichery, Melmalaiyanur, Salem, Erode and in Pallavaram, Chennai </li></ul><ul><li>They are guided and organized into groups by the SHG, Govt of Tamil Nadu and BWDA an NGO </li></ul><ul><li>They are divided in to 5 groups of 20 members each </li></ul><ul><li>Each member contribute from Rs. 60 to 110/- and deposit it in bank </li></ul><ul><li>Depending on the need, a person borrows money from that fund and repay with interest </li></ul><ul><li>They also avail loan from the bank </li></ul><ul><li>There is a system in place and women are highly interested in learning new designs and producing new types of jewellery </li></ul><ul><li>They have a fair knowledge of the material sourcing. </li></ul>Current Scenario
