  3. 3. Network Setup 5 Choose how you will connect from the router to your PS3 system: Wired or Wireless. Not all modems have wireless capability. If you’re not sure, 5 try the instructions below for a wired connection. Wired - Proceed to Step 6 Wireless - Skip to Step 10 6 To make a wired connection from the cable modem to the router and then to your your PS3 system, you will need two Ethernet cables. Each end of these cables should look like the image shown here. >>> Unlike a phone cord, Ethernet cables: - Are usually rounded (not flat) - Have eight tiny slots on each end (not four) - May have the words “CAT 5” on the cable 7 Look at the back of your modem for a connection port that looks like the image shown here. >>> Connect one end of an Ethernet cable into this port. 8 On the back of the router, look for a set of connection ports like the image shown here. >>> Typically, you will see a port on one end labeled 0 (zero), WAN or WLAN. Insert the remaining end of the Ethernet cable coming from the modem into this port. The remaining ports are usually labeled 1 through 4. Connect one end of the second Ethernet cable into an available port. 9 On the back of your PS3 there is a similar port that looks like the image shown here. >>> Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable into this port. 10 Locate the power cord and insert the end shown here >>> into the PS3 system. 11 Once everything is hooked up, you can plug the other end of the power cord into the wall. WARNING: Do not plug PS3 into a power source until all other connections are complete! © 2009 Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. 4. 4. Network Setup 12 Make sure that your modem is plugged in and has been turned on for at least two minutes. Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) if you need assistance in setting up or using your modem. Then, flip the Main Power Switch located on the back panel of your PS3 system to the ON position. The ON position is indicated by a bar on the switch. 12 13 Turn your PS3 system on by either touching the power button on the front, or by pressing the PS button on your controller. Controller must be charged before use. The power light will change from red to green and your PS3 system will beep. When there is a disc inside, you will also see a blue light. 13 Now you’re ready to configure your Network Settings.
