  3. 3. Multibank, network installation 1. Installation principle Multibank can be installed to a network server or another shared hard drive, to make it possible to operate the program from several workstations. When the program is installed to a network server, the same disk drive name, for example M:SOLO5700, is selected from/for every workstation. The same disk drive name need not be displayed for all workstations; e.g. in a small local area network, the other users can share the hard disk of user A. Thus the multibank program installed to the target directory C:SOLO5700 of user A may show as disk drive name S:SOLO5700 for user B and as disk drive name O:SOLO5700 for user C. Multibank can be operated simultaneously by all users in the network, however, updating of information at the same time from several workstations is not recommended. For example, if two users are saving the same payment at exactly the same time, the other user will receive an error message whereas the other user is actually able save the payment. This means that several users can open the same payment, but only the latest update is valid. 2. Before installation The person responsible for the company’s local area network defines the network resource and ensures that all users of the program have full authorizations. It should be made sure already prior to installation that the person responsible for or someone familiar with the company’s network environment will be available during installation. When installing the program on networked workstations, note that the modem settings of all workstations with Bank Connection service via multibank must be exactly the same (the modems must use the same com port e.g. COM1). 3. Installation Install all the programs from the first workstation. When the set-up program asks for disk drive and directory, select drive name by clicking the Browse button. After selecting it click the Next button and continue the installation, which is described in the multibank – Installing and getting started –manual. 4. 4. On any additional workstations, under “components to install” in the set-up program, select the “Install workstation files only” option by clicking the check box. As target directory choose the drive name corresponding to the target directory installed from the first workstation. Click the Browse button to choose it. The set-up program will suggest the next available workstation ID which the program chooses on the basis of the data in the SOLOSYS.INI file in the LAN SOLO5700 directory. The ID is displayed in the workstation’s SOLOBANK.INI file. The set-up creates a multibank for Windows program group to the workstation, a Solobank.ini file to the Windows directory and Windows general components to the Windows System directory. 4. Getting started There are several ways to get started. For example, you can enter company information, information on the Main User, information on the workstation’s user and bank connection information from the first workstation. Then from the additional workstations you only have to add the workstation-specific user ID and authorizations by using the Administrator’s/Main User’s Ids under Administration. Naturally you can also save all basic data from one workstation and then test that the user authorizations function properly from respective workstations. 5. 5. 5. Updating of versions Always install all the services that are in use when updating multibank, even if some of the services do not have new features. Then you will always have the latest and newest version of multibank and you avoid potential compatibility problems between services. First all the services have to be installed in full on the network disk drive from one of the workstations. After that install the System files to the additional workstations using multibank by selecting the “Install workstation files only” option. In the updating of versions all the files that multibank’s Printer Control requires are copied to the service-specific subdirectories REPXXXX of directory C.SOLO5700. The updating of System Files also updates the required workstation-specific changes for all services. 6. Slowness of multibank and it’s services If multibank is installed on a separate workstation or a LAN Server and the program is working slowly, there are some affecting factors that it is necessary to go through; a single workstation, data server, network, connection to File Transfer or a combination of several factors. To find out the reasons all the sectors have to be checked out. 6.1 A single workstation Operating System • Windows 95/98/Me or Windows NT/2000 Computer’s capacity and memory • Pentium –processor • 16MB of main memory (RAM) required, 32MB recommended • Available hard disk space minimum of 50MB (if all the services are installed, required disk space is 70MB ) • The space required by the databases varies from customer to customer, depending on the amount of data processed, from 1MB up. • Are there any other programs running at the same time as multibank? Performance of hard disk • This should be noticed only if the hard disk is shared between many users Nordea Bank Ltd Multibank, network installation December 2001 | 5
  6. 6. Network adapter • Technology of LAN e.g. Ethernet (10/100) or Token Ring (4/16) • Cabling e.g.. coaxial or twisted pair cabling • Topology of LAN (i.e. star, bus or ring) • Technology of star network e.g. hub or switch • Network protocols of the server (protocols that are not used should be removed) • Dublex mode (Half Dublex / Full Dublex) Anti-virus • Are the databases and files of multibank scanned incessantly? 6.2 File Server Operating System • Windows NT/2000 • Are there other programs running at the same time? It is recommended that no massive processes should be executed parallel with multibank. • How many multibank workstations use the same file server? • Client/Server Btrieve usually helps when slowness is caused by many concurrent users Computer’s capacity and memory • Which other programs or workstations share resources of the server Performance of hard disk • The hard disk of a server is typically shared between many users and this may slow down multibank Network adapter • Technology of LAN e.g. Ethernet (10/100) or Token Ring (4/16) • Cabling e.g.. coaxial or twisted pair cabling • Topology of LAN (i.e. star, bus or ring) • Technology of star network e.g. hub or switch • Network protocols of the server (protocols that are not used should be removed) • Dublex mode (Half Dublex / Full Dublex) Nordea Bank Ltd Multibank, network installation December 2001 | 6
  7. 7. Anti-virus • Are the databases and files of multibank scanned incessantly? 6.3 Network • Technology of Network, for example Ethernet or Token Ring • How many workstations are connected to the network • Technology of LAN router, for example Frame Relay • Dublex Mode (Half Dublex / Full Dublex) • Are workstations and the file servers of multibank connected to same segment of network? • How many workstations are connected to same segment of network? • Encryption of network. Is the network traffic encrypted? Which program is used? 6.4 Connection to File Transfer • The trace file in multibank; writing of trace with advance details can slow down process of multibank if the hard disks of the workstation are shared. • Firewall / Proxy • Is there a firewall or a proxy between the LAN and the public network? • Is there any anti-virus scanning in these devices? • Buffering of Network. This can be done by for example firewall, proxy or router • Which route is used to connect File Transfer? • Bandwidth of connection from the LAN to the public network • Are other programs using the same connection from the LAN to the public network? Which program? Nordea Bank Ltd Multibank, network installation December 2001 | 7
