  • Music for All Network National Framework Our Name is Our Mission: Music for All The name of this hub will be the ____________________Hub of the Music for All Network, _______, ________. city state The purpose of this hub is to: • Foster positively life-changing experiences through music for all • Build the largest national network of support for all music • Enhance the level of music appreciation and awareness within our schools and/or community • Act as a positive force for the furtherance of music and the arts • Provide leadership, service, educational and advocacy opportunities • Connect those with an interest and passion for music • Expand opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience and share music • Support the values of Community, Diversity, Creativity, Leadership, Synergy, and Service Local Hubs • Hubs are chapters in a network of physical, location-based entities. Hubs are also connection points and groupings in an online, national network. • Any place or gathering of people where music-making or appreciation occurs can serve as a hub in the Music for All Network. Music for All Network Hubs may be created at any school or community organization. In the case of schools, each school shall have its own hub. A middle school level program in the same building as a high school level program is appropriate for the creation of two individual hubs. • Dues may be paid by the individual, school, or community organization. Each hub will choose to pay fees as a group, as individuals, or a combination of both. Dues are required for each member to maintian their active status in the Network. • Local hubs will adhere to this Framework. Failure to do so may result in a loss of the hub’s status within the Network. Membership • The Music for All Network is designed and intended for all those who have an interest in music. Members and member Hubs should maintain and aspire to be models our core values of Community, Diversity, Creativity, Leadership, Synergy and Service. • Membership criteria for a Music for All Network hub is determined by the individual hub. However, each hub should ascribe to the Music for All Network’s mission and Core Values; be in compliance with Federal and State law; and follow the guidelines of any sponsoring governing organization or institution (like a school, church or neighborhood association). Hubs should aspire to be diverse. Membership should not be based on or precluded by grade point averages, talent level, class year, or participation in a music course. Such exclusionary practices conflict with the mission and values of the Music for All Network. • A Music for All Network member may transfer from one hub to another of the same type if the member relocates during any point in a membership year. • Music for All Network Hubs must register all members with the national office each year to maintain hub status. The Hub Advisor • The Hub Advisor will empower all members to lead, serve the school and/or community, and provide opportunities for education and advocacy. The Advisor will guide team leaders to learn their positions, carry out their responsibilities, and propel the activities of the group. • If the hub is located in a school, the advisor must be a faculty or staff member at the school. • The advisor position is voluntary and is renewed with each new membership year. Version 1.0 2
  • •The Hub Advisor will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hub, but is encouraged to delegate all such tasks. In a school setting, the Advisor will act as a liaison between faculty, administration, students and the community. The Hub Advisor will maintain files on membership, activities and all financial transactions from year to year; daily tracking of such files will be delegated to the appropriate Team Leader. • Any member who behaves in a manner that does not align with the values and mission of the Music for All Network may be eligible for a written warning or further disciplinary action. The Advisor shall be responsible for the dismissal or disciplinary action of members. A written description of the dismissal procedure must be available for interested parties. A dismissed member may appeal in writing to the national organization. • One adult advisor must be appointed for each hub. Metropolitan, Regional and State Organizations • The Music for All Network will grow to include hubs and members all over the country. Local hubs may choose to organize metropolitan area, regional and state networks. • All metropolitan, regional and state networks will be affiliated with the Music for All Network. All metropolitan, regional and state networks will work within the parameters of this Framework. Team Leaders • The Team Leaders may have extra responsibilities but draw out leadership and participation from all members. Members elect Team Leaders who show an interest in a specific team and are willing to serve that group. Team Leaders work together as a council of peers. • Team Leaders serve as the heads of the four Teams: Community, Service & Events, Finance, and Communications. • The Team Leaders, their duties, and the method of their election will be determined by the members of the hub. Meetings • Regular meetings should occur throughout the year. The frequency and timing of the meetings are chosen by the Team Leaders and Advisor. Special meetings may need to occur in preparation for programs or projects. • The Advisor should be present at all regularly sheduled meetings. All meetings should be open to all members and potential members. Activities • Each hub is encouraged to produce one or more projects or programs each year. • All members are encouraged to participate in every hub activity. • All projects or programs designed by hub members should meet the mission of the Music for All Network, express one or more Core Values, and serve a need in the school or community. All projects or programs should maintain appropriate content and a high level of respect, and gain the support of the Advisor. • Each hub should publicize its projects and programs in a positive manner and to a wide array of people. Continuing Excellence at the local Hub level • Each hub should write additional sections to enhance and add on to this Framework, in order to meet the needs of its unique members, community and place in the national Network. All additions must be consistent with this Framework. • Additions to the Framework may serve to create a local mission statement and goals, clarify operating procedures and also lead to the development of the local hub’s Action Plan (found in the Toolkit). Amendments • Each year, as the Music for All Network grows, the National Organization reserves the right to amend, enhance, and improve this Framework. We reserve the right to better serve our members and to incorporate their ideas into our work. Version 1.0 3
  • How to Start a Hub We are thrilled that you are considering joining us to make “music for all” a reality! Any place where music making or appreciation occurs can serve as the base for a Music for All Hub. Please read the following instructions about creating a “hub,” or chapter, in the Network. If you have any additional questions, do not hesitate to contact us. 1. Decide to create a hub. Hubs can be created in schools, community organizations, music stores, religious centers, in community ensembles, and more. Decide where your hub will be located and what type of members you will draw in. If you want to start a hub at your school, your membership will be composed of students. If you want to start a hub for your young professionals, you may need to find a convenient, central meeting place for young adults in your area.* 2. Designate an Advisor. One adult must commit to the duties of the Advisor position for the local hub. If the hub is located in a school, this advisor must be a faculty or staff member at the school. 3. Create interest and encourage members to join your hub. Encourage and recruit a diverse group of members to join your hub. If you want to start a hub in a school, invite students from band, orchestra, choir, drama, dance, arts and all those with an interest or love for music to join your hub’s Network. Seek out those who play in garage bands and at local open mic nights to be a part of your hub. Alumni, parent support groups, etc. from your school may also organize affiliate school hubs that maintain separate leadership, meetings, and funds. However, all of these groups may want to work collectively on projects and programs. 4. Complete Hub Registration Packet. Advisors must return the membership list, along with the completed Hub Registration Form and applicable funds. Members who join later may be added to the registration by sending in a revised version of the memebership list. All members who participate in the Music for All Network must be registered each year. 5. Receive confirmation & enjoy the music. Once Music for All receives and processes your registration, each new hub will receive a confirmation and start-up materials. Members will register for their online access to the Network individually at my.musicforall.org following the Hub registration confirmation. Enjoy the benefits of membership in the Music for All Network. Look forward to an upcoming national conference, special events and other national programs to get your members, team leaders, and advisors involved in. Go out and change the world through music! *If you want to start a hub but do not have a place to meet, please contact your local music store or contact us for suggestions. Please see www.musicforall.or/network for more details & check out my.musicforall.org to view our online network. Version 1.0 4

  • 2007-2008 Music for All Network Dues Schedule Membership Level Dues/person Hub Members Jr. High/Middle School $10 High School $15 Collegiate (with valid ID) $20 Adult (21+) $30 Individual Members Virtual Network Members $30 The above dues are based on the fulfillment of a minimum level of 15 members per hub. At hub membership levels with 15 or below, the cost is a flat fee of $225. All hubs with registrations above 15 members pay dues according to the individual fees detailed above. Advisors are responsible for collecting and sending in dues to the national headquarters. Membership Year Hub memberships can begin on the first day of any month. Dues are based on a full year schedule of membership that runs from the first day of the month that you choose to launch, with membership renewal occurring a year from that launch date. Local Dues We recommend, but do not require, that individual hubs raise each member’s dues by a nominal fee to stay with the local chapter. This “local dues” mechanism can be used to provide an instant fund for group activities or for philanthropic purposes. Hub Membership vs. Individual Membership Hub membership is available for groups in schools or organizations that secure an adult advisor. Hubs can be formed for students in middle school up through all adult ages. All those of any age or grade level that are not part of a physical hub are deemed “Virtual Members” and are part of the national Virtual Network. Version 1.0 6
