A key feature of this wiki-based open writing space is the ability to switch easily between a private and a shared notebook

By establishing an XML-based, blog-linkable space, springnote creates the possibility of three levels of writing and interaction and publication – private and then collaborative (in springnote), and then – when approved or agreed – publication to the world.
Springnote demonstrates how wikis can be both intimidating and interesting as ‘blank pages’ – the visual metaphors of springnote are not especially dramatic or radical and yet seem to point to a more usable experience than a ‘wiki’.
Collaboration can be challenging to manage without some external indication of a ‘request’ for collaboration: push through email in springnote enables groups to communicate with each other the need to visit the group pages, as well as the content of the message.
