WHAT THESE EXAMPLES TELL US Digital media tools enable creativity and new opportunities for learning by doing and producing Our digital media environment is always social – the computers connect us to each other in many ways Digital media is more mobile, and more spaces open up for learning; while existing spaces can be used differently Good learning is neither driven by, nor stopped by, digital media: this technology enables more and different approaches

LET US EMBRACE THE CHALLENGE As the New Media Literacies program declares: “create, circulate, connect, collaborate: learning in a participatory culture” – this is now the culture of young and old alike, because of digital media; denial no longer works. And in the words of Henry Jenkins, one of its foremost advocates, “New media literacies cannot be an option…. It has to be a paradigm shift which impacts the entire school curriculum… [as] some young people are becoming active members of online communities and producers and circulators of their own media.”
