Slide 1: Digital Photography In the Junior Classroom
Slide 2: One camera or many? • Either! It’s your preference • The following shows how it was done in a year 1/2 class using 4 cameras and some (non-expert) helpers.
Slide 3: Setting up your groups • Choose groups carefully (3-6 students ideal) • Parent/ teacher aide/ buddy assigned to each group
Slide 4: • Whole group: discuss purpose, learning intentions
Slide 5: Safety First • Brainstorm safety in groups • The whole class shares to make a safety poster
Slide 6: • Role play and demonstrate passing (tip). • Practice in groups.
Slide 7: Parts of the Camera • Whole class: show labels of the key parts. • Small groups: locate these parts on their cameras and discuss their function. • Whole class: volunteers label the ‘model’ camera.

Slide 9: First Shots • Give tasks to each group (tip) • Groups discusses and then takes their first shot/s. (tip) • Enjoy them - tv/data projector/ computer

Slide 14: Develop Success Criteria • we can see our subject clearly (it is focussed, near enough/ big enough) • it shows only what we want to see (it’s the ‘centre of attention’ ‘it’s clear not confused’) tip

Slide 17: Continuing the learning • Roster children in pairs as class photographers for the week • to record learning, items of interest for their class blog/ newsletter etc. • students select the best (use success criteria cards) • add a caption/ sentence /blog to their photo
