  • 3.  A firm believer in the philosophy of 25 years of learning, 25 years of earning and 25 years of returning.  He has more than 32 years of experience in retail.  Recognized as the pioneer of organized retail in India, he was instrumental in setting up Shopper’s Stop Ltd. in 1991 & Hypercity thereafter.  He was also the first Asian to be inducted into the “World Retail Hall of Fame” at the World Retail Congress & recently Inducted into the “Indian Retail Hall of Fame” at IRF 2012.  Currently on the board of Shoppers Stop Ltd. as well as Marico Industries amongst others. He is also the Chairman of RAI – Retail Association of India.
  • 4. Total retail revenues at $450bn; accounts for 10% of the contribution to GDP oModern retail @ 5%; growing at 20-30% & is a $22bn industry 33 mn people employed in the industry; modern retail employs 1.6 mn (including restaurants and trade - expected to grow to 50 mn; yet amongst the least addressed audiences in the value chain) The People challenge - lure of other industries, the acceptance of high attrition rates or the challenges which are inherent to the industry itself – lack of work life balance, low wages, low image and dignity attached to being a “salesman”

Raddhamma, from rural Andhra Pradesh has 45% orthopedic disability in her left leg.  Family Income – Rs 8000 pm (8 members)  Enrolled for 75 days TRRAIN-Y4J program  Was recruited by McDonalds, Inorbit Mall, Hyderabad as a trainee crew member at gross salary of Rs 5200 pm; moved to Hypercity as cashier at Rs 7200 pm.  Was awarded the employee of the month for March at McDonalds and proudly flaunted the stars on her cap. 14 All this while I was a burden on my family, now I send money home. My parents are very proud of me. This is a new beginning for me"

The Process Conduction of effective health camps followed by reports across cities in malls and other retail outlets in association with hospitals, NGOs and other partners. The Goal To assess & aid in the improvement of retail associates’ health & providing assistance in cases with chronic illnesses

The International Housewares Association and Global Innovation Award (GIA) honored TRRAIN on March 3, 2013 in Chicago with the award for our vision of empowering people in Indian retail. 36
