    2. Tools in Mathematics Classes
      • Various tools will be used
        • Low-tech tools
        • High-tech tools
      • Some will be used often
      • Some require training in order to use
      • All have rules associated with their use

      • Compass
      • Colored pencils
      • Highlighter
      • Markers
      • Post-its
      • Sharpeners
      • Eraser
      • Pencil

      • Computer
      • SmartBoard
      • Graphing calculator
      • Wireless communications
      • Scientific calculator
      • Cell phone
      • ipod/mp3 player
      • Internet
      • And others…

      • Rules and Information
    6. Low-Tech Tools
      • Have a designed purpose
      • Use only for their designed purpose
      • Mostly provided at teacher expense
      • Provided for everyone’s use
      • Must be inventoried every period
      • Misuse may result in:
        • Tool use privilege loss
        • Call home
        • Detention
        • Suspension
    7. High-Tech Tools
      • Have multiple purposes
      • Use only for assigned purpose
      • Provided at taxpayer (mostly parents) expense
      • Provided for everyone’s use
      • Inventoried every period
      • Misuse may result in:
        • Tool use privilege loss
        • Call home
        • Detention
        • Suspension
        • Change in class

    9. Tool Boxes
      • Groups will have a tool box with the following tools available at all times:
        • 4 rulers
        • 4 protractors
        • 12 colored pencils
        • 1 highlighter
        • 1 eraser
        • 1 sharpener
        • 1 pad of post-its
      • Additional items may be added for specific activities
      • Missing items reported immediately
      • Items inventoried at the end of each period
      • Teacher initials inventories
      • Teacher randomly spot checks inventories for accuracy
      • Teacher may remove boxes as a result of consistent misuse
    10. Tool Box Do-Nots
      • Do not take tools home
      • Do not deface tools
      • Do not damage tools
      • Do not touch other students with tools
      • Do not complain about tools
    11. Graphing Calculator Boxes
      • Groups will have a box with the following items available at select times:
        • 4 numbered graphing calculators
        • 4 connector cables
        • 1 clamp
        • 4 log-in instruction cards
      • Additional instruction sets may be added as necessary
      • Use only your assigned calculator
      • No student leaves class until all items are returned
      • Calculators are to be placed in boxes so batteries are observable without opening the box
      • Teacher verifies all items returned
    12. Graphing Calculator Do-Nots
      • Do not deface calculators
      • Do not damage calculators
      • Do not change settings in calculator until trained or directed
      • Do not use another students calculator
      • Do not remove batteries unless directed
      • Do not delete memory
      • Do not share passwords
    13. Laptops
      • When laptops are used they will be issued to students by number
      • Desk configuration may be different than normal
      • Student seats may be different than normal
      • Students use only their assigned machine
      • Students use only assigned applications or websites unless otherwise instructed
      • Machines turned off prior to returning
      • No student leaves until all machines are returned
    14. Laptop Do-Nots
      • Do not deface laptops
      • Do not damage laptops
      • Do not change settings on laptop, including background, default browser, or homepage
      • Do not download anything without permission
      • Do not use unapproved cd’s, dvd’s, or flashdrives
      • Do not plug any external device into the laptop
      • Do not leave files on the desktop
      • Do not share passwords

      • Choose to…
        • respect items
        • use items properly
        • respect those who provided the items
        • listen and follow instructions
      • … so we can make the most of our learning
