Why websites fail Part 7
Tick the box.
\"A website? Yeah ‐ We got one of those a few years Ago\"
I guarantee you will have heard something similar to this statement before. Some
people take the viewpoint that a website is something that gets done, the box gets
ticked and that's it taken care of. They get a website because everyone else has one
and it seems like the right thing to do. They don't have a better reason than that.
The information they put on the website is copied directly out of their latest
brochure complete with company history, MD's mug shot and photo of the offices.
And that's it. The site goes live and they tick the box..
Small variables can make an enormous difference in marketing responses.
Websites are by no means finished once the design is completed and the site is
uploaded, this is just the beginning. You need to change one small part of the site,
each week or month, and measure the response from your customers. All of the
following are capable of improving your customer response by 100% or more.
1. Change a page headline.
2. Change a main‐page graphic.
3. Add guarantees to your products or services.
4. Make contact details more prominent on the site.
5. Change position of a few key items.
6. Change colour, font.
Changing no more than one of these variables makes for a scenario where responses
get better. Which of them work? Which of them do not work? Test and measure to
benefit your business. IF you are not doing this, you need to start right now.
