**) If there is no Internet connection on the Server computer, you may perform an offline activation process. Instructions
for offline activation can be found later in this guide.
Note: Sanako Study only supports Microsoft OneNote 2007. In order to use the OneNote feature, Microsoft OneNote
must be installed on the student computers before installing Study Student. Otherwise Study will be unable to connect to
OneNote and tutor notes cannot be sent to students’ OneNote applications.
Note: Actual requirements may vary based on your system configuration. It is essential to make sure that the operating
system runs smoothly on each computer where a Study Tutor or Student application will be installed.
System requirements
Network Requirements
The following requirements should be met by the network.
• Multicast must be enabled in the network.
• All computers must be in the same TCP/IP sub-net in order to allow multicast transfer of screen and
audio to students
• It is recommended that all workstations within a room are connected to the same network switch
with support for multicast transmission
• Student and teacher workstations need to be able to PING each other and the Study Server with
TCP/IP packets
• If the computers have multiple network adapters, the adapter used by Sanako Study must be bound
first, because Windows operating systems send multicast data to the first adapter
• In LAN minimum of 100Mbps speed or greater dedicated to each workstation. For Wi-Fi
implementations, please refer to the Sanako Wi-Fi Deployment Guide found on the installation DVD
for requirements and suitable wireless hardware
• For optimum performance in file operations, we recommend using a file server for storing media files
and collected student recordings. However, the teacher computer may be used for file operations if a
separate file server is not available.
• Teacher and students should have unrestricted access to the server
• Schools may use an existing server with Linux, Windows NT or Windows Server operating
system
• A NAS (Network Attached Storage) server may also be used
System requirements

Its preset activities are designed in cooperation with language instruction specialists to ensure that the features of the program fit the needs and motives of the actual users. In addition to basic features of listening comprehension, pair discussion and model imitation, it includes possibilities for recording the speech, recapping, and placing bookmarks on the audio material. Saving the material as files facilitates storing the information that is necessary for giving feedback, monitoring, and assessing students’ performance. SANAKO Study 1200 allows teachers to use teaching contents in all existing forms: files, CD, DVD, multimedia, Internet. It promotes interaction and collaborative learning by chat, messages and discussion features, and provides means for grouping students and differentiating, according to students’ individual needs and abilities. Monitoring and controlling students’ PCs offers an excellent way to keep track on students’ performance and learning process. Even the use of Internet can be controlled and restricted in appropriate ways. The teacher will always stay in charge of the learning situation.
  3. Study 1200 Tutor interface: On the right-hand side, we have the classroom view. To facilitate classroom management, the student icons can be named, and the layout organised to correspond the actual seating and classroom. Study 1200 allows teacher to to save multiple Classroom layouts so lessons get started without any delays. On the left-hand side, we have the activity view. Teachers can choose from a variety of preset teaching activities to start lessons without struggling with complicated menu options – intelligent design of Study learning activities makes only those buttons and selections visible which are essential for the current learning activity
  4. About the actual activities By default, the students will be in Self-Access mode which allows students to work on a variety of different kind of files at their own pace Study 1200 contains all the activities that are necessary for language teaching: Listening Comprehension, Discussion, Model Imitation,Reading Practice and Round table discussion. The selection of activities is made simple with a drop-down menu. Once the activity is selected, additional functions appear for example for pairing the students for a discussion, or choosing a media source for listening comprehension or model imitation. In addition to specific activities for language teaching, Study 1200 contains activities that can be used not only in language teaching but also in teaching of any other subject in the curriculum: Web browsing allows the teacher to direct students to specific web-pages and also define the pages that they cannot access. On the Tutoring activity, the teacher’s or model student’s screen is transferred to students. These features make Study 1200 a flexible, multipurpose tool for all the teachers of the school or institution.
  5. In language teaching, all kinds of audio material is commonly used for advancing students ability to understand the spoken language. A media source drop-down menu appears automatically on the left hand side of the tutor interface, when choosing an activity that might require a media source. With Study 1200, the tutor can use several different media sources for spreading audio material for the students. For this purpose, the tutor can use audio or video files, CD’s, DVD’s, and any material coming from a device that is plugged into the tutor PC – for example a cassette recorder or MP3 player. Also teacher’s or model student’s voice can be used as a media source during different study activities.
  6. Study files area Study 1200 offers an easy way to organize teaching content and spread it for students. Tutor Files area can be used to create subject or lesson folders and is a way for a teacher to keep the most-common files together. Session files area shows all the files that are accessible for students according to which session they belong. Spreading the files can be done via Study files area. Teacher can share or copy files for the students in order to let them open the files independently via Student interface. Additionally Teacher may use launch or Copy and launch to open files automatically for the students. Copy and launch is very useful in a situation where the teacher wants to ensure that the delivery of the audio or video is smooth and fast. By copying the file to a local drive the delivery is assured. For example: the teacher wants the students to work in groups for making presentations on different English-speaking countries. Prior to the actual lesson, the teacher may collect suitable files that contain information on Ireland, Canada, and New Zealand, for example. In the beginning of the lesson, the class will be divided into three groups that each take a country. The tutor will then point the specific country files for each group by using the files window.
  7. The ideal way of keeping students focused on teacher's choice of webbased material! Study 1200 Web browser activity contains all the functions of a standard browser, as well as additional features, which allow the teacher to control students’ navigation. When beginning the lesson, the tutor can easily launch the internet browser and direct students to specific pages; this saves time and energy as writing the web addresses on blackboard is no longer necessary. By using Web browser functionality teacher can launch web browsers for the students and browse the web while students’ browsers follow teacher’s web navigation (follow mode). Once the presentation is over, students can be left at a prescribed point to continue with independent study The tutor can also create a list of denied or allowed web pages by using Web policy selection in Study Web browsing activity.
  8. Study 1200 offers all the possibilities for communicating Teacher can use Talk or Discuss functionalities to give instructions to all students, to a specific group of student, or a single student. Teacher can send messages and receive them from students Chat can be allowed by teacher Students may ask for help discretely by using call functionality Teacher and students can discuss privately or teacher can set up pair or group Discussion A teacher-student discussion may also be shared with others in the classroom. Allowing others to observe a discussion between the teacher and a student combines communicative exercises with peer evaluation.
  9. Study 1200 Whiteboard offers teachers all the benefits of a traditional blackboard – and even more. Pictures, text and graphical annotations can be drawn to the whiteboard by anyone who is participating in whiteboard session. Whiteboard content can be saved as a project which can then be edited afterwards. It is also possible to set a background picture or attach separate images to whiteboard
  10. Study 1200 allows the teacher to share the contents of the teacher screen and talk to the students at the same time - instruct students how to use PC applications etc. The screen image and audio can be transferred to a group of students or the entire class Teacher may choose whether to send his/her own screen or model student’s screen The Marker Tool allows teachers to highlight screen items in order to make sure that students are concentrating on essentials.
  11. With Screen control activities, the tutor can monitor, remote control and collaborate with the students by following their screens. The teacher can collaborate with selected students by accessing their computers to help with a task on the student screen and at the same time communicate with the student. Monitoring students allows teachers to listen to selected students’ work and view their screens. Screen monitoring allows the teacher to view the screen activity of multiple student workstations in real time, automatically and consecutively. Tutors are able to select whether the classroom layout displays student icons or thumbnail images of the student screens. Tutors can at any time view a snapshot of a selected student screen.
  12. Tutor can switch on student PCs, use Shutdown Operations, Lock PCs, Launch programs, and Disable the internet This can be done in order to get attention, to redirect attention or action, to help in using the pc, or to shut down all pcs in the end of the lesson. If the computers seem to distract the students, teacher can lock the screen, lock keyboard and mouse, or lock the screen, keyboard and mouse of the student PC’s. Teacher is able to launch files and programs in lock mode. Teacher can also Switch on student PCs and restart the computers if necessary.
  13. Application blocking provides teachers with an additional tool that helps eliminate distractions and improve student focus. The function allows teachers to select which applications students are allowed to access and use. They can simply view all applications in use by students and then select which applications will be enabled or disabled on student computers. Application blocking includes lists of allowed and denied applications, which can be freely edited and saved. The lists can even be compiled before lessons begin to create the ideal environment for learning, executing assignments or administering tests.
  14. The Homework feature provides teachers with an easy and convenient process for the distribution and collection of homework assignments. The Homework function features a separate homework file area, in which teachers can make files available for students’ home assignments and then collect the student work back to a selected location. Students can access the homework files that have been assigned for them in a homework file area in their own Student Player. Students are then free to save these files on a USB stick, for example, and work on the material at school or at home. At the start of the next lesson teachers can then activate a “Homework Return” window, where students can hand in their completed assignments.
  15. Text-to-Speech is a powerful addition to Study learning tools, allowing users to easily create high quality audio material in their target language from any text, as well as benefit from native voices even in the absence of native staff. The conversion is quick, simple and there is no need to record in advance. You can simply copy and paste any text from any source, such as a Web page, and create an audio file with bookmarks and subtitles for your students to work on independently. Created audio files are added to the Study Playlist. The Text-to-Speech feature employs the default Windows voice synthesizer. However, we are also able to offer a selection of high-quality Text-to-Speech voices for different target languages developed by IVONA.
  16. When teachers starts Tutor application all the students included to classroom layout will join Study classroom automatically and lesson gets started without any delays On the lower part of study student interface, we can see that the student is in Self-Access mode, which has been defined by the tutor. In this mode, the student may use all computer files and programs freely. By clicking the call button, the student may get the teacher’s attention by calling or sending a message. Additional panels open up when accessing media recorder, file area, and chat.
  17. Study 1200 student application - features for learning Full window of Study Student application opens up when the student clicks on the ’Player and Files’ or ’Chat’ button on the small window of the interface. Full view is also opened when Teacher starts an activity or uses functionality which requires Study student recorder to be used. SANAKO Study 1200 Digital Recorder The built-in digital recorder in Study student application allows them to use a wide range of compatible media file formats. Students can play, stop, rewind, fast forward and pause a file and their voices. They can also set and remove bookmarks that can be used to locate places in the file for review and additional practice. Voice Graph A graph can be viewed for both the program and student tracks. This visual representation of the voice track allows students to compare their recorded output to the original or model track for detailed speech analysis. Recap Functionality The Recap function is designed to quickly repeat the previous sentence or part of the file. It permits students to review examples of authentic or native speakers in the target language. Voice Insert In the Voice Insert mode, gaps can be inserted automatically into source material, while students are recording their voices. This unique feature allows for the creation of exercises during playback. The file area shows the files that are directed to students’ use by the tutor. The chat area is located on the lower part of the student interface. Students will have an access to the chat area only when allowed by the tutor. Students do not have a free access to chat by themselves.
