  • 6. MLC 2006 – Summary  Entry into force in 2013 (?)  Upon entry into force all ships coming within the scope of the Convention will have to be inspected and ships 500 tons and above in international trade have to be certified  DMLC Part I’s are complex and it will take quite some time to review and handle them  Shipowners must have developed and implemented measures for ongoing compliance in advance of ships being certified  Ships without valid certificates will have challenges in foreign ports and ships from non-ratifying states will be met by the ”No more favorable treatment” clause when entering port of a ratifying state  We recommend customers to start work now – at least to identify scope of work to be done and time needed to do it  For further information contact MLC@dnv.com 6© Det Norske Veritas AS.
