      • Characteristics
      • All charities are regulated by the government – listed on the Register of Charities .
      • Charities are exempt from paying some taxes
      • Often run by professionals who work for the charities.
    3. CHARITIES
      • Finance is available from:
      • Donations from the public and companies
      • Government Grants
      • Lottery Grants
      • Profits from their own shops
      • Sales of good through mail order
      • Raffles
      • Fetes & jumble sales
    4. VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS
      • Characteristics
      • Run and staffed by volunteers
      • Scouts, youth clubs and sports clubs
      • Run by a committee of elected volunteers
      • Financed by grants from the lottery, sports council or local authorities and may charge a fee to become a member to raise funds.
    5. TASK
      • Choose a charity and find out:
      • What are their aims and objectives?
      • How do they try and meet these aims and objectives?
      • How are they funded?
    6. Write about a Voluntary Organisation you know about…
      • What is the name of the organisation?
      • What do they do?
      • Where are they located?
      • What size is the organisation – Local, National, International?
      • What are their main objectives?
      • How many people are part of the organisation?
      • Who runs the organisation?
      • What kind of Fundraising do they do?
