Back Geography  The total area of Russia is 6,592,772 sq. miles.  It’s the largest country in the world.  It contains every type of climate except distinctly tropical.  European portion is a low plain, grassy in the south, wooded in the north, marshes in the west, desert in the south west.
  4. 4. Back Geo 2  The capital of Russia is Moscow city.  The main urban cites are Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, and Nizhniy Novgorod.  An interesting city is Chernobyl but it is now part Ukraine.
  5. 5. Back Geo 3  lowest point: Caspian Sea -28 m  highest point: Gora El'brus 5,633 m  Land use:  arable land: 7.17%  permanent crops: 0.11%  other: 92.72%
  6. 6. Back Chernobyl  It was the site of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.  It is now part of Ukraine.  Only a part of it is inhabitable because of radiation.  It is one of the most heavily irradiated sites in the world.

Back People •The population of Russia is approximately 140,041,247 •Ethnic groups- Russian 80% Tatar 4% •The language is mainly Russian with other minority languages. 0-14 years: 14.8% (male 10,644,833/female 10,095,011) 15-64 years: 71.5% (male 48,004,040/female 52,142,313) 65 years and over: 13.7% (male 5,880,877/female 13,274,173)

  9. 9. Back Religion  The main religions are Russian orthodox and Muslims.  Orthodox Christianity is Russia's most followed religion.  There are an estimated 23 million people that are Muslims in Russia.

Back Economy 2  Main Imports: vehicles, machinery and equipment, plastics, medicines, iron and steel, consumer goods, meat, fruits and nuts, semi finished metal products.  Main Exports: petroleum and petroleum products, natural gas, wood and wood products, metals, chemicals, and a wide variety of civilian and military manufactures  There are approximately 75.81 million workers in Russia.
  12. 12. Back Economy 3  8.9% of Russia is unemployed.  Budget: revenues: $205.3 billion. Expenditures: $306.6 billion  Agriculture products are: grain, sugar beets, sunflower seed, vegetables, fruits; beef, milk.
  13. 13. Back The Russian Alphabet language  Most people speak Russian but there are several minority languages.  Most sounds are spoken with many tongue movements  There are 33 letters in the Russian alphabet.

Back Holidays • The national holiday is Russia Day, June 12 • Unity Day was first celebrated on November 4, 2005, remembers the popular uprising led by Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky which got rid of the Polish invaders from Moscow in November of 1612 • Every 9 May, Russia celebrates the victory over Nazi Germany, while remembering those who died in order to achieve it.

Back Russia's natural disaster  In the city of Chernobyl there was a nuclear power plant.  On April 26, 1986 reactor 4 exploded into a burst of nuclear fallout devastating Chernobyl and all of its surrounding area.  The plume drifted over large parts of the western Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, and Northern Europe. Large areas in Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia had to be evacuated.
  16. 16. Back Disaster 2  As many as 4,000 cancer deaths over the lifetime of those exposed.  56 Deaths as a result of the explosion.  One of the most widely recognized and known disasters in the world.
  17. 17. Back Russian Weapons of War •The Mosin Nagant was one of the primary weapons used by the Russian military. •The sniper rifle variant was replaced by the svd. •It was used in world war 1 and 2 and other smaller wars with Finland

Back Russian Weapons of War 2  The Dragunov sniper rifle was and still is the primary sniper rifle for the Russian army.  It was inducted by winning a contest between two other sniper rifles because it was more accurate, had better range, and was just easier to handle and control.  Here is a pic of the svd model.
  19. 19. Back Russian Weapons of war 3  The ppsh-41 is a Soviet made submachine gun which was used in the Finland wars and ww2.  Had low recoil.  Was mass produced in several countries.

Back Russian Sports  The three main Russian sports are…..  Rugby- Its like football but with less pads.  Ice-Hockey- Played on ice with a puck that has to go into the goal using sticks.  Tennis- using a racket you have to hit the ball over the net into your opponents court and it has to bounce two times to get a point.
  21. 21. Back Transportation  As of 2006 Russia had 933,000 km of roads, of which 755,000 were paved.  There are 630 paved airports and 1800 unpaved airports.  They are no railways to U.S. bit the idea is proposed.
