Counselors at Stillwater High School and Southwest High School (Minneapolis) have been using Naviance in grades 9-12 for a number of years and have developed a sequential program for use with students at grade level. This session will feature best practices and ideas for other schools to use in their counseling.

How does Naviance work?• Success Planning Your district can customize the career and college readiness experience by school, grade-level, groups and even individual students• Career Planning Students learn about careers they’ve always dreamed about or explore those they never knew existed as part of their journey to finding those that ignite their inner drive

More ways that It works• Course Planning Provides a wide range of tools to help students develop long-range course plans that not only meet graduation requirements, but also help students realize their ultimate post-secondary goal• College Planning Creates and supports a college-going culture by encouraging all students to explore post-secondary education options

  6. 6. Leading up to Freshman Year• Information shared with students and family about the Naviance program during freshmen registration• Students begin the process of 6 year planning to transfer to Naviance• Students continue career exploration
  7. 7. Freshman YearFall• Students edit their profile• Students explore their account• Students complete the Career Interest Profiler• Informational meeting with parents to describe the Naviance sequence and share essential learning outcomes

Freshman YearWinter/Spring• Students register for their sophomore classes and revise their academic plan• Students transfer their paper 6 year plan into digital form aligning with high school graduation requirements• Students examine their post secondary game plan• Students initiate the resume writing process
  9. 9. Sophomore Year• Class presentations with all students• Refresher overview of Naviance components• Students update their Profile• Students complete “Do What You Are” inventory• Begin to explore careers matching personality type
  10. 10. Junior Year• Individual meeting with each student and parent/guardian as available• Review Course Planner/Six Year Plan• Share results of personality inventory and potential career options• Share various parts of Naviance, including College Search; Resume; Career Interest Inventory; Visit Schedule; ACT/SAT Information; Scholarships; Maps; etc.
  11. 11. Senior Year• Fall classroom visits• Review application process• Update plans in Naviance• Revisit Resume; Scholarships; etc.• End of Year Senior Survey including final plans for first year out of high school – completed on Naviance
  12. 12. Post Secondary Plans• Four-year College 64.7%• Two-Year College/Tech School 15.3%• Employment n/a• Military Enlistment 1.6%• Undecided/No Response 18.4%Graduation rate: 96% Data self-reported by SAHS Class of2011
