This article is simplified to understand and compare top rated LED TVs. If you are looking out to buy one and want to know and compare latest models, this will be an interesting article to read. Here I will be comparing Sony’s XBR-‐55HX929 and Samsung’s UND8000 series. Sony XBR-‐55HX929 Sony Bravia XBR-‐55HX929 is the best LED-‐TV with 3D capability on the market today. This is the Sony’s only local-‐dimming LED TV. Local dimming is a technology where it allows certain zones of LED behind the screen to be dimmed or brightened to correspond to the brighter or darker areas of the images on the screen. This gives a real deeper black levels than any other LED TVs out in the market today. Deeper black levels are important for contrast ratios. Picture quality is excellent. XBR-‐55HX929 claims to have infinite contrast ratio and a real good screen refresh rate. It has lots of options to process the video. Talking about features, it comes with many other features like Corning Gorilla glass for the screen which is highly durable; XBR-‐HX929 deliver Full HD 1080p screen resolution; an easy to use menu that allows you to navigate additional content while watching your favorite show; ambient sensors which automatically adjust brightness and color based on the rooms lighting; energy saving; internet streaming; connect to friends and family live on XBR-‐55HX929 with skype and integrated Wi-‐Fi; Intelligent Presence Sensor is an interesting technology from Sony, which uses built-‐in face detection to turn itself off if no one is watching TV. View or listen to your photos or music by connecting your USB drive
or USB MP3 player or even digital camera. There are many more available features to talk about. The downside to XBR-‐HX929 is that it’s very expensive and shows some blooming effects. Blooming is the backlighting leakage, which illuminates the borders of lit pixels. As most of the LED TVs have a limited viewing angle, XBR-‐HX929 is not any different. Picture quality deteriorates when viewed from an angle. The end result here is that XBR-‐HX 929 is one of the best LED TVs of 2011 and comparable to some of the top Plasma TVs. Samsung UND8000 Series Samsung UND8000 series design has an amazingly stunning look. It comes with a really thin bezel around then screen [0.2 inches]. So when watching your favorite TV programs or movies, the picture fills almost the entire screen. The display is 1 ½ inch in thickness. It is Samsung’s high-‐end HD 3D LED TV, with local dimming capability. Local dimming is a technology where it allows certain zones of LED behind the screen to be dimmed or brightened to correspond to the brighter or darker areas of the images on the screen. The result is deeper black levels and crisp picture. Samsung UND8000 series features a 240 Hz refresh rate, (number of times the screen refreshes per second), built-‐in Wi-‐Fi, Smart TV, which lets you connect to the Internet, skype HD video calling. The Smart Hub, your portal to all Smart TV’s features, claims to have more apps than it’s competitors. The remote controls is pretty interesting, comes with a Bluetooth enabled QWERTY keyboard with a screen. The UND8000 series delivers Full HD 1080p screen resolution. The ultra clear panel very effectively absorbs the external light and eliminates reflection and provides a rich viewing experience. With ConnectShare Movie, you can plug in your USB drive in to the TV and watch your favorite movies, photos or music. Eco Sensor is another interesting technology, which senses the room’s light intensity and calibrates the brightness of the screen automatically. There are plenty more features to add.
The bad thing about UND8000 series is that it’s very expensive. A brightness variation across the screen has been noticed while testing UND8000 series. The final word is that UND8000 delivers a stunning look and features. I hope you enjoyed reading this LED TV review on Sony XBR-‐HX929 and Samsung UND8000 series.
