    • Definition Must have specific personality traits with competitive academic skills. Highest rate of on-the-job injuries and fatalities. This job does many things around the community. This job offers the opportunity to specialize in things.
    • Work Environment Full-time scheduling with overtime. Junior officers work holidays, nights, and weekends. May as security. Usually working in and around the community.
    • Education Need high school diploma, college or higher degree. Other training for 3 months. Academy must be state approved.
    • Colleges Kirkwood Community College: Associates in Criminal Justice. Cost: approx. $128 per credit hour. Globe University: Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. 36 month program. Cost: $78,300 for all 36 months.
    • Salary, Benefits, and Opportunities annual wage=$55,000. Range of $32k - $89k. Detectives wages=$50k - $70k. May retire at an earlier age than most careers. Overtime options with an opportunity for promotion after 6 months.
