product and ancillary texts?

• When picking a font for my products, I obviously needed it to be associated with the horror genre. So I wanted it to be creepy and scary but also making sure its eye-catching so it'll attract my target audience.
• My group and I went through many fonts trying to find the perfect one, the font we finally chose was Bacon, I felt it was compatible with the horror theme as it seems ridged and strong especially as we used it in capitals to emphasize the seriousness and force that is need in horror.
• I used this font to represent my products such as for my film cover I used it for the title ''She Loves Me Not'', which is one of the most important part's of the cover and had to be remembered and we felt the Bacon font would work well, so we used it there.
• Then to link to another one of my products being my trailer, in which I used it during for the pieces of text and then again for the end credit's showing the title making sure I linked it back by using the same font to show it clearly and even the same colours to make it shown that it is the same products.
• Although for my magazine cover I chose not to use this same font this was because magazines all independently have there own style and layout, so I want to obviously look like a realistic magazine cover, so I then chose against putting the Bacon font on it and used a normal magazine font.

Examples of this are..

• As the killer is the main attraction in most horror films e.g. Jason, Mike Myers, Freddy Kruger, I want to keep the theme and image of the protagonist visible to draw in the audience.
• I also wanted to keep the killer as the main factor as our unique selling point is the fact that our killer is a woman, which is unusual.
• Although our killers costume is of normal conventions; dressed in all black with a white mask such as other characters like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Halloween. I felt this convention was a good one to keep as it has a very good effect. This stereotype has been build up over years, which is why I feel it works so well.
• I took many photos of the mask and the killer changing the effects such as the background and props most importantly adding on the splashed blood to the mask to clearly outline the fact that its the killer.
• The mask is a clear theme throughout my products for example my trailer, the killer was shown to create suspense and to link back to are other works, we made the shots of with the masks in them to make the killer seem frightful, which is what a horror film is all about.
• But I didn't use the mask in the film poster because I wanted to highlight the fact that the killer is a woman by having feminine hands holding a rose.

• Throughout my three products there is a clear link in the colours red and black. These two colours are classic horror colours such as red is seen as danger, blood, hurt and then black is seen as dark, creepy, scary so these were perfect colours to use together, as they show the theme of horror very well.
• The colour red is used on my front cover for my film poster highlight the theme of horror. By making it the brightest colour on there as I feel it was very effective using red nail vanish rather then blood so it made the audience think and engaged them, and showing are USP, also by placing it against the dark background making it stand out even more.
• Another reason I chose to use black was so you couldn't see were the killers hands were coming from making the cover even more frightening and again making the audience think.
• I then used white to write the information on the cover but made the title red to link to the image and make clear that it is the horror genre and show its importance.
• I used the same colours on my magazine cover to show the link between the two, again having the magazine heading which is the most important much like the film title at the top and against a dark background to emphasize the red.
• Lastly I used these colours in my trailer for the text again the red and black colour combination just heightened the horror effect throughout my trailer, making the text haunting.

• Themes are very important in representing the genre of a horror film my three main themes were love, revenge, and slasher, in which I feel they are precisely shown in all of my products.
• For example in my trailer shows a clear theme of revenge with the killer chasing the characters, whilst the theme of slasher is brought in with the use of weapons and blood.
• And then on my magazine again slasher is shown through the use of the blood splashed over mask, showing who the killer is. Also by having the killers mask shown it is a clear sign of revenge as other films such as Halloween, Scream use the same type of masks in their films, so we used this convention to heighten this theme
• On my film poster I feel it shows more of the theme of love and revenge, because of the title “She Loves Me Not”
• And another reason I feel it shows these themes is from the use of the image, a red rose is a common symbol of love, but knowing it’s a horror film it’ll make the audience think

• Characters play a key role in determining the target audience, my target audience is 18+ so I have made my characters in my film 18, so that they can relate
• My trailer clearly shows the characters, introducing them in the establish shot in front of a school showing that their just normal students, creating fear in my target audience showing that this could happen to anyone.
• My film poster doesn’t fully show a character but just the killers hands, being a girl which highlights my unique selling point. This also creates mystery and intrigues the audience to want to see the film to find out who the killer is, and the reason why she’s killing them.
• My magazine cover however doesn’t show the victim's because normally the protagonist is the many character viewed on a front cover of a horror magazine

Examples of this..

When advertising my products I used different media technologies and marketing campaigns depending on if I was advertising my film poster, magazine cover or trailer. The marketing campaign had to be effective otherwise people wouldn't know about the film or want to see it, so I used many different techniques to reach out to my target audience such as: Social networking sites, billboards, point of sales, shops, websites and many more, to give my product more publicity and also to start a hype about the film.

A film poster is known a way of advertising as it represents the product, so I chose to place my film poster like most others, in obvious places. This meant area’s such as bus stops, on buses, and train station adverts which are way’s of travel that many people use including my target audience, meaning it will be noticed and hopefully draw them in. I also used big billboards to reach out to people, this billboards are eye catching, so it’ll grab the attention of the public audience. An area that I was thinking of having a billboard was London’s Piccadilly Circus as many of my target audience shop there and also it’ll have more effect as the film is based in London, building more suspense.

I also had to advertise in certain areas such as social networking sites, this is because a lot of young people such as 18 year olds and older, which is my target audience use these kind of sites. They use these to connect with other people there age, so if we have the trailer on Facebook they can share it with there friends which then helps to advertise. This is cross-media because Facebook is used for us to advertise but we then also advertise them by having our trailer on there site. Again with Youtube which also used in my marketing campaign, in the use of synergy as I uploaded my trailer to their site to give then publicity but also my product.

I will advertise my magazine in a different way as it is a different product and has a different use then the trailer and film cover. I will place my magazine in normal shops such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s etc, as a range of people shop there as well as my target audience. I will also have a point of sale in the shop’s to attract my attention towards my product and have offers and deals to create a hype for my film.
I will also have another point of sale placed in the cinema’s, to grab people attention. Again in the cinema I will have my trailer played during the ad’s to intrigue people.

Because a lot of my target audience use technologies such as computers, mobile phones, ipods etc, it is necessary for me to set up a website for my film, so they can view the trailer, film poster, magazine cover and more. Such as have free downloadable posters, games, and a competition were the audience have to sign up by either e-mail or text so that I can still have access to them and keep them interested in the film and create a hype over it.

Another way to keep the audience still involved is to have other competitions publicly such as the radio, were people can win free tickets for example.
And finally an obvious way of advertising is a television advert, showing the trailer, which a lot of people have television’s so it will be seen by many people and will leave people wanting to see it.
So overall I feel my publicity campaign will be very effect as it will reach out to many of my target audience, in a range of different areas, hopefully making my film successful.
