  • 8. Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI) The Skoltech Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation brings together scholars, academics, researchers, entre- preneurs, and industry experts to advance the knowledge and practice of entrepreneurship and innovation in Russia. The CEI is developing • Curricular and extracurricular programs to integrate in- novative and entrepreneurial perspectives into Skoltech education and research pathways • Research of innovation and entrepreneurship practices in Russia • Services (including infrastructure, support, and mentor- ship, knowledge transfer and IP management) to assist the Skoltech community in moving their ideas to market 15 We believe fundamental research provides a solid basis for developing innovative ideas; however, we go a step further and instill in our students the confidence to bring their ideas to impact. Innovation Workshop M.Sc. students begin their adventure by immersing themselves at the Innovation Workshop. Learn how to • Identify and solve real-life problems using technology • Develop and prototype solutions • Bring solutions to impact During the Innovation Workshop, students get a foun- dational experience in Entrepreneurship and Innova- tion. They cross boundaries of various disciplines and forge a “can-do” entrepreneurial attitude. Innovation EMBEDDING ENTREPRENEURSHIP INTO EVERY ASPECT OF THE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE 14
  • 9. 1918 Here at Skoltech, we deeply believe that students are the most important part of the university. We’re looking for students who have not only exceptional talent in science and technology, but also - and more importantly - the desire to make an impact on the world. Our students also play a vital role in helping to build a world- class university from scratch - they are helping to design pieces of the curriculum, extracurricular activities, and the overall student life at the Institute. Being part of something new is not always easy, but it is profoundly rewarding and our students are the most essential stakeholders we have. Our Students ENGINEERING WITH AN ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT Bram Caplan Director for Student Affairs Vahe Taamazyan and Nikita Rodichenko (IT) won 1st place at the TAPPED Hack- athon in Boston, Massachusetts. They developed a way for audience members to save presentation slides with their smartphones. Anastasia Uryasheva (IT) founded her own startup, Sadko Mobile. The company has since become a resident of the Skolkovo Technopark. Dmitry Smirnov (En- ergy) formed a design for an engine producing Co2-free electricity. The project took him to the finals of the CleanTech Challenge. Alexandra Kudryashova, Vladimir Eremin, Katrin Kotenko Lengold and Dima Vasilev, mentored by Professor Alessandro Golkar, competed in the MIT 100k Launch contest. Their application for simplifying satellite photography made it to the top 10. “
