Honors 177 Midterm Holographic Cafe Anneliese Brown Anthropology
The project will allow the user to take drawings they have created on the computer and transform them into real physical objects. I imagine the real physical objects stay within the computer. I would like to draw the evolution of the Genus Homo, and introduce all of the members to each other through the program watching them interact and socialize with each other. I would use the information generated to create a virtual world for the evolution of mankind, perhaps something along the line of the South Park cartoon.
My plan is to build a Holographic Cafe. This will be a real place where people can go hang out for fun, and learn about the history of humankind. Basically, the viewer will select a time period spanning from millions of years. The many options will be provided on a detailed menu. The viewer enters a room with several hologram screens in place. The screens will next be downloaded with a random sequence of events pertaining to the menu selection previously selected by the viewer. The experience will last approximately the same amount of time as a modern day movie.
Context and Precedents
Surreality Innovations Inc. has been working on a data base for their project, Stereoscopic 3-D Digital Film. They offer an interactive game project, and are presently collecting data for their project. The intention of their work is to make available a 3-D gaming experience. By networking with Surreality Innovations, I intend to develop 3-D avatars that are capable of interacting with beings inside the Virtual Museum at the Holographic Cafe. Surreality Innovations Inc. has already developed a voice activated avatar, and this technology will play a huge role in the Virtual Museum of the Holographic Cafe.
I was inspired by a project from a website mentioned by one of the speakers at the UCLA Outlaw Biology Symposium in January 2010. The website is http://scienceforcitizens.net , and the project is called Incredible Crayon Physics. The project will holographically illustrate the evolution of the Genus Homo, introduce diverse species (and environments) to the viewer. The scientific purpose is, to observe our early ancestors interactions and social techniques with one other and the world around them. The Holographic Cafe will create a virtual world for the modern human, enabling them to select a particular time period, and interact on an educational level in a three dimensional hologram world.
The project will consult with multiple artistic impressions and ideas, to help represent a variety of experiences for human ethnology. This project will analyze, research, and apply individual data from popular digital media realms such as Avatar (the movie), Google (search engine), and World of Warcraft (online game). A culmination of this information will be used to keep the interactive data base up to date, providing an endless amount of viewer experiences.
