6. 6. Camtasia & Jing

This presentation is being prepared for sharing with staff using TechSmith’s product Camtasia.

Camtasia is a program that captures your keystrokes as a screen cast. You install it, start it up and it records what you do on the screen.

It is rich in features, (like the talking head picture in picture) especially in post production ability.

It has excellent on-line video based how to’s.

 7. 7. Camtasia & Jing

Classroom uses include preparing short tutorials for student review, or for student absence.

As with ANY video production, the pre-production planning process, and thinking through the post-production process is critical.

Camtasia’s education price is $180 per copy so we do not own a lot of copies.

Contact Steve or Jim if you want to explore it further.

The Smartboard Video Recorder is a similar product that comes with our Smartboard Notebook software.

 8. 8. Camtasia & Jing

Camtasia is available in a full demo version for 30 days (all TechSmith products available as 30 day free trials).

Jing is the free Internet based version of Camtasia. You just sign up for an account.

Jing is not as feature rich, but surprisingly good for what it is, and free.

TechSmiths web site:

 9. 9. Discovery Education - Science

Coming to all CT Middle School teachers (Grades 6,7,8) for free.

Like Discovery Streaming it will have has a passcode.

We are working on how the CT initiative dovetails w/ our existing Discovery Streaming accounts, and how we might extend it to K-5

Discovery Streaming can be found here:
