Soda<br />What health problems are associated with drinking soda?<br />Fatigue, weight gain, digestive problems, edema/swelling, ACNE, bags under the eyes, Diabetes, bladder infections.<br />How much money could you save by avoiding these health problems?<br />The longer you do it, the more health problems you will have.<br />Dr. Nancy Doreo, DC<br />
  13. 13. Artificial Colors<br />Food colorings are easily recognized by the use of a number. (i.e. FD&C #4)<br />There were 80 colors and dyes used in the early 1900s. One by one they have slowly been banned because of adverse reactions. Today, there are only nine colors approved by the Food and Drug Administration.<br />Lakes: dyes which have been mixed with alumina hydrate (a natural or synthetic oxide of aluminum) to make them soluble. <br />Dr. Nancy Doreo, DC<br />

Juice Consumption<br />Children who drink at least 12 ounces of fruit juice a day are more likely to be obese and short. <br />42% of those who drank at least 12 ounces of fruit juice per day were short. Of children who drank less juice, only 14% were short. <br />53% of the juice drinkers scored in the 75th percentile for fat content compared to only 32% of those who drank more water. <br />Those who drank less juice showed no nutritional deficiencies as compared to their peers. <br />– Pediatrics, 8/97.<br />Dr. Nancy Doreo, DC<br />

Changing Eating Habits<br />Set the example!!! <br />Ecclesiates 4:9-10 says..."Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work;  If one falls down, his friend can help him up.  But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!"<br />When changing habits, do it gradually. <br />Don’t offer unhealthy foods – don’t even have them in the house. Hydrogenated (trans) Fats:<br />BAD FATS<br />found in almost every processed food in the supermarket. <br />Read the ingredient label on everything<br />trans fatty acids have the capacity to do more harm than saturated fats<br />they increase bad cholesterol, decrease the good cholesterol and thus, increase the risk of coronary heart disease.<br />Dr. Nancy Doreo, DC<br />

Where do we consume hydrogenated fats?<br />Almost every processed food in the supermarket from soups to chips, crackers to cookies, pastries to mixes of all kinds, including some pasta and rice mixes. <br />frozen foods like pizza and pot pies and even some cereals. <br />When you order or cook deep-fried foods such as donuts, French fries, chicken, fish, etc., vegetable (hydrogenated) shortenings are often used to fry them. <br />Margarine…this is the "stuff" from which margarine is made.<br />Dr. Nancy Doreo, DC<br />
