  • 2. What is a verb?
    • Verbs show action in a sentence.
      • I talk in class.
      • He fishes .
      • We sail .
      • The students graduate .
  • 3. Verb Conjugation
    • When a verb is conjugated it means that someone is doing the action of the verb.
      • To talk is not conjugated, we don’t know who is talking.
      • She talks is conjugated, we know who is talking.
  • 4. To Talk - Conjugated
    • I talk
    • you talk
    • he/she/it talks
    • we talk
    • all of you talk
    • they talk
    yo hablo tú hablas él, ella, usted habla nosotros hablamos vosotros habláis ellos, ustedes hablan
  • 5. Infinitives
    • When a verb is NOT conjugated, it is in the infinitive form.
    • Infinitive forms of verbs always begin with “ TO .”
      • to talk
      • to listen
      • to dance
  • 6. Spanish Infinitive Verbs
    • habl ar - to speak
    • com er - to eat
    • viv ir - to live
    • In Spanish, all infinitive verbs will end in
    • -ar, -er, -ir
  • 7. Spanish Pronouns
    • yo - I
    • tú - you (familiar)
    • usted - you (formal)
    • él - he
    • ella - she
    • no pronoun for “it”
    • nosotros - we
    • vosotros - you all (familiar)
    • ustedes - you all (formal)
    • ellos - they
    • ellas - they (all feminine)
    usted & ustedes can be abbreviated: Ud. Uds.
  • 8. “AR” Verb Endings
    • -o
    • -as
    • -a
    • -amos
    • - á is
    • -an
    When conjugating verbs in Spanish, the following endings are used. Memorize these verb endings.

    • To conjugate an “ar” verb
      • remove the “ ar ” from the end of the infinitive
      • habl ar > habl
      • add the endings for “ar” verbs.
    • yo habl o
    • tú habl as
    • usted habl a
    • él habl a
    • ella habl a
    nosotros habl amos vosotros habl áis ustedes habl an ellos habl an ellas habl an
  • 10. habl ar to talk Las señoritas habl an con los matadores.
  • 11. nosotros compr amos vosotros compr áis ustedes compr an ellos compr an ellas compr an yo compr o tú compr as usted compr a él compr a ella compr a compr ar - to buy

  • 20. El señor y la señora llevan la ropa típica. llev ar - to wear, to carry
  • 21. Los se ñ ores montan sus caballos. mont ar – to ride
  • 22. Ellos celebran el Día de los Muertos. celebr ar – to celebrate
  • 23. El señor cocina la paella. cocin ar – to cook La paella es deliciosa.
  • 24. El señor trabaja con los caballos. trabaj ar – to work
  • 25. Don Juan busca una mujer. Busc ar - to look for Yo busco una mujer.
  • 26. Practice
    • I speak Spanish.
    • Yo hablo espa ñ ol.
    • You dance.
    • T ú bailas . Usted baila .
    • She drinks wine.
    • Ella toma vino.
    • We speak Spanish.
    • Nosotros hablamos espa ñ ol.
    • You all buy fruit.
    • Ustedes compran fruta.
