  5. 5. History of the U.K. The Picts were the first people to live in the U.K. 10,000 years ago. Other groups ruled the U.K. such as the Celts, Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, and Normans. Britain became one of the most powerful countries in the world through the trading industry. After World War I and II, Britain lost most the countries it ruled.
