Itty-Bitty Introduction
Reflexive pronouns are usually placed before the verb. However, they follow and are attached to the verb when the verb is an infinitive or an affirmative command .
Remember: An
infinitive is a word that has not been modified.
Normal Position of the Reflexive Pronoun
Los niños se lavan.
The children wash themselves (“get washed”)
Exceptions:
Infinitive:
Voy a lavar me . I am going to wash myself (get washed)
Affirmative Command:
Láva te las manos. Wash your hands.
When an affirmative command is negative, the reflexive pronoun is placed before the verb. For example: No te laves las manos.
