    • CONTENTS PAGE ANALYSIS
    • CONTENTS PAGE ANALYSIS Clear, organised contents pages determine whether an audience will be able to find the content that influenced them to purchase the magazine. However, prior to purchasing a magazine, one may flick to the contents page to decide whether the magazine is worth buying. For that reason, it is important that a contents page is clear and supports the front cover in appealing to a target audience.
    • CONTENTS PAGE ANALYSIS‘Fresh Direction’ magazine has a clear, eye-catchingcontents page which conforms to the colour-schemeof the front cover. Initially, a bold, noticeablemasthead is positioned at the top of the page whichreminds the audience which publication n they arereading. Having been very similar to the mastheadfound on the front cover, this creates a house-stylefor the magazine; therefore, the same font size andtype for the masthead will be continuously used, unless the magazine purposely changes itsappearance.
    • CONTENTS PAGE ANALYSIS Above the masthead, a Header has been used to inform the audience that they are on the contents page. Below the masthead, a solid, red box is used to draw attention to the magazine’s website and contrast against the black text and white background. As a result, the audience is easily made aware of the magazine’s website and where to find more information about the magazine and its contents. Beside the box, a dateline in black text which differs to the masthead notifies the audience that it is a ‘Summer 2011’ issue.
    • CONTENTS PAGE ANALYSISFollowing the conventions of typical contentspages, ‘Fresh Direction’ organises their list ofcontents in vertical columns which includeshammers and numbering to differentiate thetopic of the information; e.g. Entertainment,Fashion and Travel. Having applied the samecolour and font to the numbering andhammers, this makes the kickers clearer as adifferent font size, colour and type has beenused. On the right of the page, a sidebar isused to give additional information to theaudience about the magazine. kicker hammerIn addition, decks are used below the kickers sidebar numbering deckto give a brief summary of the featuredarticles, allowing the audience to becomemore aware of the different articles.
    • CONTENTS PAGE ANALYSISAs the text is divided and organised into columns with appropriate spacing, the informationis very clear and easy to read. Furthermore, margins have clearly been used to avoid thedifferent visual elements being cluttered. Also, the use of gutters and alleys helps thecontents to be clear and separates the different features. By using a variety of textualfeatures, the target audience of ‘Fresh Direction’ will be able to identify different featuredarticles clearly and easily; this may result in the audience purchasing the magazine in futureas it has a successful layout which is well-organised and appealing. columns gutters
    • CONTENTS PAGE ANALYSIS Three main images are aligned beside each other below the masthead, box and dateline, which would surely draw the audience’s attention to the main featured articles. As each image differs in camera angles, colour and subject matter, this creates the idea that this magazine is full of interesting articles. However, by positioning a medium close-up shot of the celebrity ‘Jessie-J’, this draws attention to the centre of the page; which then results in drawing attention to the teaser above the image which informs the audience that the image of Jessie-J is associated with a featured ‘Festival Special’ article. It is also evident that the images used are relevant to the featured articles listed in the contents; which creates a sense of relevancy and importance.
