    • An adjective is a word that describes, or modifies , a noun .
    • If a word can appear here ________ , it is an adjective :
    • The _______ thing ( or any common noun ).
    • Examples:
    • The small thing; the nice person; the smart boy; the amazing movie.
  • 2. Adjectives
    • We can generalize our test:
    • an adjective can appear between any determiner and noun :
    • John’s best man .
    • His wonderful friend .
    • Two good ideas .
    • That hungry bear .

    • Recall also that adjectives can follow linking verbs :
    • This movie sounds nice .
    • John is tired .
    • The food seems tasty .
  • 4. Adjectives
    • A noun can be modified by as many adjectives as you care to provide:
    • That big , red ball
    • His cold , tasty , refreshing drink .
    • The tall , interesting , lovely , smart man .
