COLOR- A Building Block of Art
Lesson 1- The Color Wheel

The color wheel is made up of many different hues, or shades of color, that blend with one another in sequence.

The most important part colors are what is called the primary colors. Primary colors are those that cannot be made through the mixing of other colors. They are the basic colors that are mixed together to create the remaining hues of the color wheel.
The primary colors include
-Red
-Blue
-Yellow
This is a 3-part color wheel composed of only the 3 basic primary colors.

When every two colors are combined with one another, the secondary colors are formed.
The secondary colors include
-Blue + Yellow = Green
-Yellow + Red = Orange
-Red + Blue = Purple
This is a 6-part color wheel composed of primary and secondary colors.

When a primary color is mixed with a secondary color aside it, the tertiary colors are formed, thus creating the full 12-hue color wheel.
The tertiary colors include
Blue + Purple = Blue-purple
Blue + Green = Blue-green
Yellow + Green = Yellow-green
Yellow + Orange = Yellow-orange
Red + Orange = Red-orange
Red + Purple = Red-purple
This is a 12-part color wheel composed of all 12 colors, primary, secondary and tertiary.
