Tucked away in an historic neighborhood, the Druid Hills Golf Club provides a quiet

ment, and prejudiced immigration laws amid national hysteria and the mixture of poli-
tics and religion. In his eyes, all were brothers and equal under the law.

Clarence Darrow believed it when he resigned his position as a highly paid corporation
counsel for the Northwestern Railroad to become attorney for Eugene Debs and the
Unions. He believed it as he pleaded his clients, the McNamara brothers, guilty in or-
der to save their lives after the Los Angeles Times bombing. It was the motivating force
behind his defense of Dr. Ossian Sweet when the doctor and his family protected their
home in Detroit from a mob controlled by the KKK. He believed it in the Leopold and
Loeb case, when he decried capital punishment and the wail of the mob for the life of
these two boys; and in the Separation of Church and State issues of the Scopes Trial
in Tennessee, in which he volunteered his services.

Hotel
Located in the heart of Midtown, the Four Seasons Atlanta prides itself on providing
luxurious accommodations and true Southern hospitality. GTLA has reserved a block
of rooms at the discounted rate of $240 per night for Wednesday thru Friday nights.
The deadline for room reservations is March 23, 2009. Please call the hotel directly to

Convention Registration
You may register for the Convention by completing the form in the back of this booklet
and returning to GTLA or online at www.gtla.org. The deadline for seminar registration
is Friday, March 31, 2009. All sessions are open to GTLA members. Non-
members may attend the Criminal Defense track. If you are a non-member, meet
the eligibility requirements and would like to join, you may attend any session.

Golf Tournament Registration
The 2nd Annual President’s Cup Golf Tournament will be held at the Druid Hills Golf
Club 740 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA 30307. The green fee is $125. Please register on
the form in the back of this booklet.

Refunds & Exchanges
Requests for refunds must be made in writing no later than April 10, 2009. A process-
ing fee of $35.00 will be assessed for all refunds. You may send another GTLA mem-
ber in your place if you are unable to attend. Written notification to is required.

CLE Credit
This seminar has been submitted to the Commission on Continuing Lawyer Compe-
tency of the State Bar of Georgia for mandatory continuing legal education credit. Ap-
proval is expected to be 14 hours - including 1 Ethics and 1 Professionalism. Your at-
tendance will be reported by GTLA. To ensure proper credit, please provide your
Georgia Bar ID number. It is your responsibility to pay for and report your hours to
other state bar associations. However, GTLA will supply you with a certificate of atten-
dance upon request.

Tax Deductibility
Tuition, travel, hotel and meals for attending continuing legal education programs to
improve and maintain professional skills are tax deductible.
