Teacher’s Notes:
This lesson is especially designed for 2nd cycle students of ESO.
In the Reading activity, students have to take a true or false activity and answer some questions.
In the Writing activity, they have to write a sportsperson’s biography. Firstly, they have to fill in the gaps of a text given using an appropriate tense. Then, they have to follow this model and write a sportsperson’s biography.
Contents:
The Grammatical features that are reviewed in this lesson are: the Past Simple, the Present Perfect, the Present Simple and Continuous, the Comparatives and Superlatives.
The Vocabulary worked is related to Sports.
Worksheet : Students have to hand in the worksheet. The teacher interchanges it and students check it (Pair-assessment).

Reading the Article Who Will Be Footballer of the Year
Read the article and do the activities of the following pages.

Are these statements TRUE or FALSE??
Spain is the country with more nominees on the FIFA World Players list of candidates.
Only the coaches and captains of the national sides have the right to choose their three favourite players.
There is also a FIFA World Players list for women.
Messi is the favourite to become the footballer of the year.
The footballer of the year always wins the Golden Ball.

Answer the questions below with complete sentences.
Which club has received more nominees to be named FIFA World Player?
Has Kaká ever played in an English team? Where is he playing now?
According to the text, who has been one of the most important players of all times?
Why is not Messi the favourite to win the FIFA World Player award?
Who won the FIFA World Player award for women last year? Where is she form?

Read Bojan Krkic ’s biography.
Now, write the verbs in the correct tense: Present Simple, Past Simple or Present Perfect.

Writing
Now write the biography of a famous sportsperson.
(80 – 100 words)
Make sure you…
Write in Present Simple, Past Simple and Present Perfect.
Use time references and expressions.
Include pictures.
Arrange the text into paragraphs (3 at least).
OPTIONAL: If you want to or you feel confident, you can use comparatives and superlatives as well as the Present Continuous tense.
