  4. 4. Steps to install mysqlgui tools<br />Goto www.<br />Click on <br />Choose your host operating system<br />Download and install gui tools,<br />It includes the mysqladministrator,querybrowser,migration toolkit and <br />

THE MYSQL ADMINISTRATOR<br />Mysql administrator is a program for performing various adminitrative tasks such as monitering, starting and stopping mysql server and to perform backups and maintain various user connections.<br />Once the mysqladminitrator starts it opens up a connection dialog.<br />Specify the mysql server and all the other details.<br />To use the newly setup server on the same machine user serverhost as ”localhost” and user as “root”<br />Mention your password and click ok.<br />

To set advanced options click on “details”<br />Run mysql in configure_service mode<br /> when you have to start mysql server within administrator or<br />When you have to run on multiple servers.<br />To switch to configure_service mode:press and hold CTRL key,then the cancel button changes to SKIP button, click on SKIP.<br />

Sidebar has the options:<br />Server information: information about the adminstrtor you are running and about the mysql server you are connected to.<br />Service control:start and stop service,themysql administrator and the mysql server you are connected to and its configure service<br />Startup variable: configure the startup variables.<br />Server connections: view or kill the threads or user connections<br />

User administrtion:add new user or delete existing user<br />Health: graphical representation of hit_rate,key_efficiency and hierarchy of system and status variables.<br />Replication status:visual overview of mysql master and slave replications<br />Backup:create backup projects or perform backups<br />Restore:restore the backup files<br />Catalogs:list of catalogs<br />
  11. 11. THE MYSQL QUERY BROWSER<br />It’s a tool for creating, executing,editing and optimizing queries in graphical environment.<br />On starting the query browser a connection dialog opens up. Enter the details and your schema.<br />

Query browser main window<br />Query tool bar: query area,all your typed queries or automatically generated qeries are present here, execute them using execute button.<br />Use buttons:<br />EXECUTE(CTRL+ENTER) to execute<br />EXECUTE IN NEW TAB(CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER)<br />SPLIT TAB AND EXECUTE(CONTRL+ALT+ENTER)<br />Advanced tool bar: below the query tool bar is advanced tool bar, it has the execute, compare, explain and other buttons to for transaction, query management and query building.<br />

Result area: the result is displayed here.<br /> to manipulate the result area right click and select the required manipulation.<br />Use F12 key to maximise the result area.<br />Object browser: database browser has all created the schemas,tables. They can further edited and viewed.<br />Information browser: it has the online help for syntaxes,explanation of funtions and params used for querying. <br />

The mysql migration toolkit<br />It’s a graphical tool used to migrate data and schema from various relational database systems to mysql.<br />Toolkit is available only for windows.<br />Migration from external rdbms includes the following steps:<br />1.source/target selection: specify the source and target.<br />
  16. 16. 2.Object selection: select different objects like tables, views etc<br />3.Object mapping: choose methods for mapping the objects.<br />4.Manual editing: manually edit the new objects<br />5.schema creation: a new transformed object is created on the target MYSQL server.<br />
  17. 17. 6.Data mapping: specify changes foe the data if any.<br />7.Bulk transfer: transfers the server from source to target.<br />8.summary: summary report of the whole migration process is created.<br />

On mysql migration toolkit welcome screen<br />Click on next and Choose either direct migration if the mysql toolkit is installed on both source and target machines<br />Otherwise choose agenda based migration.<br /> choose the required database system.<br />can be any one of ms access server,mssqlserver,oracle database server,mysql database server based on the user requirement.<br />To save click on “+” and enter the name of the connection and click “OK”<br />

On the target database screen choose mysql server.<br />After selecting the source and target database servers choose the schema you want to migrate.<br />Once the reverse engineering process is completed, choose the number of objects(tables and views) to migrate.<br />On the object mapping screen, choose migration method as generic.<br />Once the meta migration is successful, on manual editing screen select the object and click on details button to edit sql statements.<br />

Choose one of the object creation options.<br />Once object creation is completed successfully.<br /> on data mapping options screen, you have options either to directly migrate the data on target or create a script file.<br />Data will be converted into MYSQL compatible format and migrated to target file successfully.<br />Summary screen shows the entire migration summary.<br />Save the migration.<br />
