  • On March 7, 60 students jammed into Van Tech ’s drama studio to take in some powerful poetry at the school's Poetry Café, one of a variety of literary events hosted in March at Van Tech as part of their two week Literary Celebration. 13-06-18
  • On March 11, the Vancouver School Board, BCIT and the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of B.C. (ASTTBC) joined forces with a new MoU designed to enhance awareness and support students interested in pursuing careers in technology and trades. Guests at the signing were treated to an engaging robotics demonstration by the reigning world champions, the Gladstone RoboSavages. 13-06-18
  • On March 11, I had an opportunity to visit a senior biology class. The teacher is doing an exceptional job in using technology to augment her teaching and the student’s learning. In this case, students were creating animated videos using iPads to demonstrate the flow of blood through the heart. 13-06-18
  • On March 13, Sir Matthew Begbie Elementary school hosted a Global Education Fair to create awareness about a variety of problems that are affecting the world. 13-06-18
  • On March 5, I had the pleasure of visiting our students and staff at Gathering Place, Roberts and the Downtown Easide Adult Education Centres. The visit was inspiring and I was struck by the significant diversity of the learners who are taking advantage of our flexible educational services. 13-06-18
  • Dr. Seuss ’ Cat in the Hat made a surprise visit to Tillicum Community Annex School on March 15, as a part of the “Hats Off to Dr. Seuss” program which is a part of the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation. The event was a big hit for all the students (but especially the kindergarten and Grade 1s). 13-06-18
  • During this year ’s Spring Break, while many students were whiling away their days in front of the TV, some students got active with the VPD’s Police Officer’s Physical Abilities Test (POPAT) as part of the 2013 Student Challenge. The POPAT is an annual eight-day event that gives students an opportunity to experience firsthand what it is like being a police officer. 13-06-18
  • A class of Grade 3 French Immersion students at Lord Selkirk Elementary School held a party on March 15 to celebrate the publication of their new class made cookbook entitled “Bon Appetit”. The students brought many of the foods that could be found in the cookbook itself and took turns reading their recipes out loud. 13-06-18
  • During a recent trip to Quilchena Elementary on March 15, I received a terrific tour from some very enthusiastic tour guides. One big highlight was the school ’s paper airplane building competition that I had the honour of judging. 13-06-18
  • On March 15, Renfrew Elementary hosted a playground opening and celebrated (in the rain) with a big cake, a bunny dance (by the Kindergarteners) and juice and playtime for everyone. 13-06-18
