Pre-employment Commercial Driver Application The process of hiring a driver can be complex and time consuming, but these measures must be met under the DOT guidelines under 391.51 (General requirments for driver qualification). Pre-Employment Requests <ul><li>Make sure that you have the correct contact number, person, and/or fax number as well as a physical mailing address. </li></ul><ul><li>If potential employee was self employed, they must provide tax documents, invoices or anything relative to their business that would be able to verify them for the period of time they were self employed. </li></ul><ul><li>If after several attempts for request for information has been sent, a suggestion of a physical letter stating that you have tried several time to contact someone within their business to verify previous employment and have been unsuccessful, ask them to please provide this information, also enclose a copy of the F MCSA regulations §391.23 Investigation and inquiries and if a response has not been made following this then a complaint may be made under §386.12 Complaint. </li></ul>
