De energie opgewekt door de PowerPlane kan al concurreren met alternatieve opwekmethoden op basis van fossiele brandstoffen op de eerste commerciële schaal.

The PowerPlane technology Why are electricity costs so low? 600m 300m 0m • Operating 5.5m wingspan prototype – design work on-going for 12m/250kW and 30m/2,5MW • Several demonstration farms under development • After scale-up to 30m wingspan systems will have significantly lower Levelised Cost of Energy (LCoE) than coal-fired power, even when deployed offshore • PowerPlane systems use significantly less material than conventional wind turbines • PowerPlanes operate on higher altitudes than conventional wind turbines, where wind is stronger and more constant • Development costs of PowerPlanes are much lower than conventional wind turbines as core innovation is in system control software, not system hardware • When deployed offshore, PowerPlanes are based on floating platforms instead of huge foundations, resulting in much lower construction, installation and maintenance costs Status
